BARBER, Douglas Joseph Barber -
August 23, 1942 – August 2, 2024
Passed away peacefully with family at his side at Lakeridge Health on Friday August 2, 2024 at the age of 81 years.
Loving husband of Muriel Goodson.
Proud father of Michael, Kathryn "Kate" (Dave), Rosemary (Scott). Grandfather of Julian, David, Samuel, Daniel, and Emile. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Evelyn Barber. Survived by his brother Ted (Lynn).
He will be missed by his nieces Marla, Shona, Jillian, and Hilary, as well as extended family and many friends. Douglas grew up in Toronto in a home filled with music. In his teens, the family bought their cottage in Caesarea where they, and then Doug’s family and friends, shared over 50 years of memories.
Douglas was the first student to register at York University and then went on to law school.
He began his law practice and started a family, and soon moved to Bowmanville where the family became involved with many community and church groups. Doug was proud of his children and enjoyed being involved in their lives as they grew up and had their own families. He especially loved when he could be part of their musical endeavours.
Later in life, Doug started a relationship with Muriel and the two married in 2009. Muriel and Doug had a loving partnership and were able to support each other through many good times and throughout Doug’s illness. He was happiest when sharing music with others.
Whether playing his bass with one of his many musical groups, organizing a “music session” for someone who needed it, or making a tape or CD for a friend or family member, to introduce them to new music.
Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME 847 King Street, West on Wednesday August 7, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday August 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the health care workers and friends that helped Doug through his illness both at home and at Lakeridge Health.
