MURPHY, Dennis Patrick  - It is with great sadness that the family of Denis (Dennis) Patrick Murphy announces the passing of our loving father in Whitby, Ontario, on August 22, 2020 at the age of 86 after a lengthy battle with dementia.

He died peacefully with family members at his side.

Dad was a proud Newfoundlander born on February 15, 1934 in St. John’s and was raised by his grandmother Mary Murphy in Portugal Cove. He moved to Toronto in the 1950s.

During a return visit, he met Mary Ann Power in Outer Cove, Newfoundland. They married in 1962 and raised their five children in Scarborough, Ontario. He later met and was warmly welcomed by his Hanlon family in 2001, which meant so much to him. Dad and Mom moved to Whitby, Ontario, in 2006.

He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 58 years Mary; children Darlene Baron (Nicholas), Brian (Carolyn), Deana (Steve McGregor), Denise Flewelling (Scott), and Kevin (Stephanie); grandchildren Natalie, Emily, Connor, Hayley, Tyler, Carson, Cameron, Hayden, Charlie, Edwin, and Hugh; brothers Frank Hanlon (Marlene) and Denis Hanlon (Valda), sisters Barbara Whitty (Stan), Doris Thorne (Richard), and Regina Jones (Robin); brother-in-law Patrick Power (Sharen) and sisters-in-law Margaret Smith and Frances Power; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Dennis Hanlon and Margaret Murphy; mother and father-in-law Nicholas and Bridget Power; Murphy brothers Edward (Nellie), Michael (Isabel), Lewis (Elizabeth), Peter (Hannah), Ronald (Anne), Leonard (Ursula), and sister Gertrude Deemer (Ralph); Hanlon brothers Patrick (Alice), Gerald (Goldie), and sister Elizabeth Manning (Richard); brother-in-law William Power (Carmel) and sisters-in-law Ann Mahon and Sister Bride Power.

Rest in peace in heaven, Dad, with all your family and friends who have gone before.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Lynde Creek Manor for caring for Dad so well.

A celebration of Denis’ life will be held for family at a future date.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/).
