MCDOWELL, Dr. Shaun Alexander - Passed away on January 2, 2021 at the age of 85.
Born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland to Herbert and Annie McDowell, he will join his beloved wife Rosemary and sister Anne in heaven.
He is survived and missed by his brother Joe and sisters Rosemary and Eileen.
In 1971 he immigrated to Canada with his 4 children, David (wife Laura), John (wife Brenda), Jane (husband Scott) and Ruth (husband Mike).
He will also be greatly missed by his 10 grandchildren Caitlin, James, Ryan, Hannah, Keegan, Quinn, Tanner, Shaun, Dannan and Owen.
Shaun’s life journey took him from Northern Ireland to Brampton, ON. to aid in the expansion of Peel Memorial Hospital, where he worked as an anesthesiologist. His compassion and strength of character touched the lives of doctors, nurses and patients the hospital, for over thirty years.
An active and respected member of Bramalea Baptist Church, his faith and medical expertise were cornerstones of volunteer humanitarian expeditions he took to places like Haiti.
A devoted family man who loved his wife and children with all his heart, he was a tremendous role model and Father. Even after his own children had left home, his inner youth was always on display entertaining his grandchildren with his extensive model railways, playing games and piano recitals.
Well respected by all, he had a quick wit and good sense of humor. Despite struggling with Dementia over the past few years, he remained a gentle, loving and respectful person. He will be missed by every person that he touched with his life.
Due to COVID, a small ceremony will be held for family only on January 12 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society in his name.
