Siegel ReinholdSIEGEL, Reinhold  - It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Reinhold Siegel, a beloved husband and father, who peacefully passed away at home on August 11 with family by his bedside.

Fondly called “Opa” by all, he will forever be remembered for his loyalty to his wife and family, his work ethic, mischievous smile and sense of adventure.

Just short of his 93rd Birthday, Reinhold defied all odds; WWII, back surgery, prostrate cancer, open heart surgery and three teenage girls.

He was born in 1925 in Botenheim, Germany and immigrated to Canada with our Mom in 1957, shortly after getting married.

They lived in Saskatoon for their first year but then moved to Oshawa where they worked side by side to build a life and family together. He was a very proud, self-made man who loved all sports (especially soccer) and being outdoors.  Although he was an accomplished, respected tool and die maker by trade, he was happiest working outdoors tending to his strawberries, potatoes, massive garden and fruit trees.

The only thing he loved more than watching his gardens flourish was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.  He is survived by his loving wife, Elisabeth; his daughters, Birgit (Scott) Allison, Cony (Marc) Renzella and Diane (Brandon) Renton; his grandchildren, Brittany, Carly, Dillon, Jordan, Lauryn, Luke and Logan.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 17 at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby (N of Hwy #2) 905 443-3376 from 10am to 11am, with the funeral service at 11am followed by a luncheon.  The family welcomes flowers or donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation.

A special thank you to his long time doctor, Dr. Fung, Saint Elisabeth and VHA Durham’s Palliative Care Community team and our wonderful nurse Tammy for their loving care and support.
