Planeta KathleenPLANETA, Kathleen Mary 'Kay' - Kay passed peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on January 19, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Loving, devoted wife and best friend of John, dear mother of John (Linda) Planeta, Michelle Flynn (John Kimble), and Karen (Derek) Amell and amazing, hilarious, proud grandmother to Tyler, Matthew, Chris, Michael, Shannon, Sydney and Luke.

Kay was predeceased by her big sister Joanie (Mark aka Grinch-deceased) Lambourne, whom she idolized.

She will be missed by her wonderful brothers Alex (Julie-deceased) Dobos and Les (Angela) Dobos.

She had many special nieces and nephews (and grand nieces and nephews) whom she loved dearly, She will be remembered fondly and with smiles by all.

Kay was born in Oshawa on November 27, 1930 and was a lifelong resident. She was a former Girl Guide leader, avid bowler and worked in downtown Oshawa at the Royal Bank where she met the love of her life, John Planeta. The two were married for nearly 59 years and raised three children together.

She had unwavering faith and was a long-time member of St. Mary of the People Parish and the Daughters of Isabella. Kay volunteered for many community organizations including Meals-On-Wheels and the Catholic Women’s League and participated annually in St. Mary’s Church Bazaar.

With a vivacious, outgoing personality, Kay loved to make people laugh. She had many wonderful life-long friends and also enjoyed meeting people and making new friends during annual trips to Florida and other destinations.

There was always room for extra people at the dinner table and invitations to “stay for a bite” were quickly accepted as her Hungarian home cooking was both delicious and plentiful. She was creative and artistic and enjoyed ceramics, collecting “art” from auctions and gardening both at home and at her cottage on Rice Lake.

The family wishes to extend their love and thanks to her real-life guardian angels from the Lambourne clan.

Special thanks, also, for the wonderful care of Dr. Kopolovic and the amazing staff at Lakeridge Cancer Centre and the fantastic nursing staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa from 2A, 8G and 4F, especially nurse Brittany from 2A and Ann from 4F. Thanks also to hospital administrators Donna and Kimberley for their compassion.

Visitation on Friday, January 25th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King St. W. (905-721-1234).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE PEOPLE PARISH, 570 Marion Avenue (at Stevenson) on Saturday, January 26th at 10:30 am. Reception to follow. Interment at Resurrection Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lakeridge Health Foundation – Cancer Care would be appreciated.
