TALSMA, Phyllis Edith  - May 9, 1931July 24, 2019

Phyllis was born in Picton County on May 9th, 1931.

She was the youngest of 4 children, sister Dorothy and brothers Jeff and Raymond (Bud).

Her mother died in childbirth when Phyllis was two and she was raised for the most part in foster families.

Some of her best memories were of living on the farm with her godparents and with her brother Bud.

She told stories of having a goose that followed her around and her brother Bud would kick it under the table and get her in trouble. Her and Bud would run through the corn fields and make up their own games.

Phyllis’ older brother Jeff who was killed in the World War II. Her father always came to visit her wherever she lived and his nickname for her was Beako. Her father sadly was hit by a car and killed when she was 16 years old. Phyllis met and married Keith Acton.

They had four children; Robert, Darlene, Mary-Lynn, and Denise. She was a loving mom. She was a beautiful woman who always took pride in her appearance. Phyllis had an inner strength that carried her through the hard times of her life. When Keith and her split up, she raised her 4 children, worked in the corner store, drove a school bus and went to night school.

Then she worked the next 25 years for the Durham Regional Police Department in Whitby, Ontario. While living in Whitby, Phyllis met and married William (Bill) Talsma. They travelled to many exotic locations before buying their first mobile home and travelling across Canada and the U.S. They always hit as many yard sales as possible. Her passions in life were her home, her gardens and her dogs.

She loved her grandchildren and took every opportunity to spoil them. Phyllis taught her kids that if “you can’t do the job right, don’t do it at all. Phyllis leaves behind; her son Robert Acton and daughters Darlene Blades and husband Raymond, Mary-Lynn Fice and husband Randy, Denise Winter and husband Jeff, grandchildren Jessica, Tiffany, Chris, Jason, Colin and Tyler, greatgrandchildren Benjamin, Spencer, Kai, Maddeline, Henry, and Sunny J., her dear sister Dorothy in Bellville and her nieces Beverly and Bonnie and nephew David.

Visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home, on Monday July 29th, 2019 at 12 noon until time of Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Internment at Thornton cemetery immediately after the service.
