MARTINDALE, Hutson Lloyd  - It is with the deepest regret we announce the passing of our father, Hutson Lloyd Martindale a retired Civil Servant in the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, West Indies.

He died peacefully, at the Scarborough Health Network-Centenary Hospital on Sunday July 28th 2019 (one day shy of his 88th birthday) of a short illness. 

Hutson leaves behind his daughters, Nicole Martindale-Coke and Cheryl Martindale and his son-in-law, Derrick B. Coke.  He also leaves behind one beloved grandchild, Catherine Jessica Coke, as well as his Aunt Elaine Simmons, sisters Violet Martindale and Venus Apatu, brother-in-law Emmanuel Apatu, sister-in-law Evelyn Martindale, and many nieces and nephews as well as several cousins and lifelong friends who reside in various countries. 

Hutson was born July 29, 1931 to Clarke and Christobelle Martindale. He was the third of eight children.

In 1952 he joined with other young Vincentians who relocated to Curacao in the Netherland Antilles in search of greater fortune. He worked on the oil refineries as a Plant Operator.

In 1954 he returned to St. Vincent and rejoined the Civil Service where he worked as Votes Clerk for the Treasury Department in Kingstown.

He held many positions in the Government Services until his retirement in 1986 where he held the post of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Tourism.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who provided wonderful care and support during Hutson’s final years including, the many PSWs from St. Elizabeth Healthcare especially Mavis, and the Extendicare Scarborough and Seven Oaks Long Term Care teams. 

A special thank you to Yvonne Saunders and Dorothy Hamilton-Dawkins, Derrick’s mother (whom we could count on at the drop of a hat to be there when needed) for not just providing care but for being great companions and friends to both Mom and Dad. 

Vistation at McEachnie Funeral Home, on August 3, 3:00 TO 5:00 pm, until time of Service at 5:00 pm.
