Hirchenko WalterHIRCHENKO, Walter  – Passed into the arms of His Heavenly Father on September 25, 2019 in Peterborough.

Walter lived 70 years, now reunited with his father Mykola, his mother Efrosyna, and his brother, Nicholas.

He is survived by his siblings Leonard, Mike and his wife Diane, Olga and her husband Michael Spino, and Vera and her husband Gary Kingsley, along with his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Wally, as he was affectionately known by his family, had a very warm and giving heart.

He never refused someone in need.

His kindness changed lives and will not be forgotten.

We find comfort in the Lord’s promise that Wally is reaping bountifully in heaven for what he sowed here on earth; the reward of his tender heart and generosity.

On November 28, 1948 in Ghent, Belgium, Walter was born to Ukrainian refugees. They immigrated to Canada in 1950 and made their home in Oshawa, Ontario. Wally was an honour student and excelled in math and sciences.

He was accepted into the engineering program at Queen’s University. To earn funds for his tuition, he took a job at GM. Deciding to stay there, he advanced within the company and specialized in machine repairs.

After retiring in 2007, he moved to Peterborough, where he spent his time with close friends and family.

“Z’Bohom” Wally, we miss you.
