McFARLAND, John “Ian” McFarland   - February 8th 1926 - September 28th  2019

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Ian McFarland, in his 94th year.

He passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2019 with his children by his side.

Cherished husband of the late Sheila (née Brady) for 44 years.

Loving father to Fiona (Doug) Shaw and Alasdair (Jennifer Turner) McFarland.

Granddaddy to Alison Shaw, and Papa to Alexander and Demeter Turner McFarland.  Fondly remembered and admired by his cousins in Northern Ireland and Australia, his good friend John Fletcher in England, and those that had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.

Ian proudly served in the RAF as ground crew in both England and Egypt as a Lancaster fitter.

When his children were young, he was the Akela of the local Boy Scout troop and coached hurdles at the elementary school. He happily  worked into his nineties as a mechanical engineer with his good friend Rolf Fleck.

We would like to extend an invitation to family and friends to join us in an informal celebration of his life of Sunday, October 27th, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the O’Brien Rooms of the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (formerly know as the Pickering Recreation Complex) located at 1867 Valley Farm Road, Pickering. Please drive to the back of the complex by the arena entry.

We look forward to sharing stories and memories with you.

In memory of Ian, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
