GIOCADA, Nicanor ‘Nick’ Cabahug - Succumbed to complications from his over 20-year-old spinal cord injury on December 1st, 2019 at age 65 in SHN Centenary Hospital in Toronto.

He will be forever remembered by his wife of more than 34 years and best friend, Leonina (nee Sicat); his pride, joy and loving sons Godfrey and Genesis; daughter-in-law Tiina (nee Lehto); beloved 5 sisters based in the Philippines - Nancy, Norma, Nida, Nilda and Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; grand nephews and grand nieces; and several extended family members and lots of caring friends. 

Nick will be fondly remembered for his indomitable spirit which encouraged his family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles.

He thrived on the exchange of interesting and thought-provoking ideas which demonstrated his incisive look on issues. He was known for his love of outdoor activities such as fishing, picnics, long drives, etc. His hobbies were playing guitar and singing (with a melodic voice), photography & photo editing.

Despite having been on a wheelchair for more than 20 years and being faced with accessibility issues, he was not deterred from travelling to the places he loved.

He had tirelessly volunteered at Lyndhurst Toronto Rehab’s Peer Support Group, Toronto Western General’s spinal cord research program, and the Toronto Transit Commission accessibility program.

Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Parish, 200 Morrish Road, Scarborough Ontario on December 9th, at 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM. 

The legacy of Nick’s kind spirit, wit, and humour punctuated by his strong faith and determination will never be forgotten.
