Smykaluk AlexSMYKALUK, Alexander Frederick - (July 26, 1924 – January 15, 2020)

With great sadness, Alex passed away peacefully, on January 15, 2020 in his 95th year.

Lifelong resident of Oshawa, he was the beloved husband of the late Grace (Molnar) Smykaluk, loving father of Steven Smykaluk and his wife Joanne of Chatham and Julie Ann Colby and her husband Lee of Oshawa.

Dearly missed by his granddaughters Tara and Taylor Colby.

Lovingly remembered by his brother Michael Smykaluk and his wife Brenda of Dundas and their children Kezia, Sara, Trevor, Melanie, Martin and Tommy. Also missed by his brother in law Alex Dobos, (husband of the late Julie Dobos) and their children Suzanne, Alex Jr. and Michael of Oshawa.

During his lifetime, he served his country in WW2, with The Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Charlottetown, PEI as an air traffic controller. He later worked at Oshawa City Hall as a land surveyor and in the Planning Department. He went on to work for the Province of Ontario in Whitby and Toronto as an Industrial, Commercial and Residential Assessor.

He spent many years with the Oshawa Lions Club as a President and District Zone Chairman of Ontario, volunteering his time to help the CNIB.

Alex loved sports. In the RCAF, he was their “All Star” baseball pitcher. He also loved golfing, where he shot the rare “hole-in-one’. He won numerous trophies and awards.

Alex was very generous to his family and provided them with much wisdom and advice.

He was laid to rest at Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa, surrounded by his loving family. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
