McRAE, Mary G. (nee O'Neill) - Passed away peacefully with her beloved husband John, of 57 years, by her side.
She passed on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the age of 81, while at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa.
Loved and devoted mother of Marg, Dave and Rick (Jane) and the proud and loving Grandma of Josh, Lindsey, Jake and Jairus.
Daughter of the late John and Marie O'Neill, and the dear sister of Al O'Neill (Shirley), Kathy Hermer (George; dec.) and Jim O'Neill (Patrick Conlon; dec.).
Predeceased by her brother Paul and wife Lillian O'Neill.
Beloved sister-in-law of Duncan (Jean; dec.), Cathy Allen (Bill; dec.), Theresa Millett (Max) and Angus (dec.).
Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Mary had a positive impact on the lives of many - from her childhood in Lindsay to nurses training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Peterborough, from her work at the Oshawa Clinic to pool parties on Keewatin, from Buckhorn Lake to the ski hills and campgrounds of retirement, family and friends were always around and always welcome.
However, life was not always easy, Mom beat cancer and battled Parkinson's, occasionally showing it "who was boss" - getting up from her chair and shuffling off, returning a few moments later with a muffin or cookie, a glance at the idle walker as she sat.
Ultimately Parkinson's played a part, forcing her to be a spectator, taking her freedom, but not her will. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, for her optimism and for her perseverance.
