SUSINI, Vittorio - (1927 - 2020) - It is with great sadness that we announce on the evening of June 28th, 2020, Vittorio passed away at Woodbridge Vista Care Community.

Vittorio suffered from mixed dementia (Alzheimer) and pneumonia attributed to Covid-19.

At the time of his passing, he was cared for by the staff of Woodbridge Vista, the William Osler Nursing team and the Canadian Armed Forces in support of the Covid-19 pandemic.

His family is forever grateful for the caring nurses, PSWs, recreation coordinators and volunteers we all encountered. We are sure if he could have expressed it, he would have said this himself.

We want to also acknowledge the many PSWs from Spectrum Health, throughout his journey since diagnosed with early dementia in 2001. They were our extended family and made him smile no matter what the circumstances.

Vittorio is survived by his spouse Anna (Nina), his daughter Lina and spouse Silverio, his son Giovanni and spouse Maria, his grandsons Jon, Jason, Vincenzo and Sebastiano.

Vittorio immigrated to Canada with Anna from Italy in the 1950s. He was a dedicated labourer and respected within his working life. He was known to be a highly pragmatic, a meticulous worker, and a joy during family gatherings.

He spent the first 23 years, in Canada, working his way up as a labourer with the Canadian National Railway eventually landing a position as Chief Foreman for 10 years with VIA Rail at Union Station, in the food services division.

Vittorio picked up various other contract jobs over the years as he was known to be a very knowledgeable home builder and tradesman.

Both Vittorio and Anna spent their retirement decades together in their homes in Richmond Hill and Whitby prior to entering Woodbridge Vista Long Term Care in 2015.

At this time due to COVID-19 restrictions, no memorial service is planned.  Vittorio’s remains will be laid to rest at GROVESIDE CEMETERY'sGarden of the Four Seasons” in Whitby. A memorial tree will be planted near by with plaque to commemorate his love for gardening and nature.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to honour Vittorio, can make a donation to the Alzheimer Society.
