Kersten AlphonsKERSTEN, Alphons - (April 30, 1938 – September 9, 2020)

Alphons passed away after complications from surgery on September 9, 2020 at the age of 82.

Cherished father of Amanda Roffey and her husband Ted, and grandchildren Aidan, Kersten and Maddie, he is survived by his brother Harry and sister Annie and extended family in the Netherlands.

Alphons will be fondly remembered by friends and family for his kindness, generosity and unfaltering devotion to his daughter and grandchildren.

Al’s tireless work ethic had a huge influence on all those who knew him.

As an ambitious young man, Al immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1963 and through perseverance and determination built a wonderful life for his daughter and her family.

Al enjoyed summers at the cottage, long drives and spending time with his grandchildren.

As a member of the immediate family for the last 20 years, he became a huge support for Amanda and Ted as he dedicated his days to seeing the kids off to school, being the go to guy for rides, and the world’s best handyman about the house.

He created a bond with all three grandchildren that will endear him to them for the rest of their lives.

A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Parish (903 Giffard St., Whitby) on September 18th at 10:30 a.m. Guests are required to wear masks and observe social distancing protocols.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. John the Evangelist’s ShareLife campaign at https://stjohntheevangelistwh.archtoronto.org/ (Click the donate now button – gold hand with coin in upper right-hand corner).
