Kulynych HannaKULYNYCH, Hanna Kulynych   -  (February 13, 1937 – November 20, 2020)

It is with immense sorrow that the family of Hanna Kulynych announces her passing away on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Hanna, 83, passed away at the Lakeridge Health hospital in Oshawa, due to complications following a difficult surgery.

Her daughter Natalia and family were by her side.

A mother, grandmother, and sister, she is survived in Canada by her bereaved younger daughter, Natalia Kolacz and husband Eugene, as well as her dear grandchildren, Anna and Nazar; in Ukraine, her elder daughter Oksana Ivashchenko and husband Ihor, as well as grandson Lukyan and great-grandson Oleh. Likewise, Hanna remains a dearly missed sister for Oleh Babiy and his wife Valentyna, together with their children, Andriy and Halyna, and their families.

She will forever be remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and her entire extended family and friends, both in Ukraine and in Canada.

Hanna was born in the village of Ustya Zelene (Ternopil region) on February 13, 1937, in the family of Stefaniya and Kostiantyn Babiy. Having endured years of post-war hardship and exile in Kazakhstan, she and her family returned to their native village and started life anew.

She graduated school with honors, after which she moved to L’viv to begin studies in the Institute of Agriculture (now the Agrarian University). There she met her future husband, now the late Zenoviy Kulynych.

During the time of her studies, she had gained the love, respect, trust, and appreciation of many people, and had made numerous friends, who remain devoted to her to this day. She raised two daughters and did everything possible to give them a happy and successful life.

Then, by whim of fate, her daughter Natalia moved to Canada, where she started a new life. In 1995, after experiencing a painful loss of her husband, Hanna, too, emigrated to Canada, to help her daughter raise her own children.

She became an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League in Oshawa. Yet, she also gave her all to care for her own family in Canada. Being an incredibly sincere and selfless person, she also helped her elder daughter in L’viv, as well as the whole extended family.

She was the one to whom everyone, family and friends alike, always referred for advice and support. She knew every birth date of all family members and their children by heart, and always made sure to give her warm and heartfelt greetings to them.

Hanna was always an adoring and caring mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker - had an extraordinary culinary talent which she had passed on to her daughters; was an accomplished embroiderer; loved the arts, music, and literature. Together with her husband, she was part of the choir.

Among her favorite hobbies was mushroom picking, and all kinds of gardening, such as growing her own fruit and vegetables and flowers, which always brought her much joy and fulfillment. She was content with these small joys in life with her family, and it was a major shock when they all came to a sudden halt.

The last two weeks of Hanna’s life were made drastically worse due to a grave and serious illness.  Without exaggeration, hundreds of people all over Ukraine, Canada and elsewhere had been zealously praying for her recovery.

Her final wish was to be buried next to her husband, in Ukraine.

My dearest and beloved mom, we all miss you so deeply. Your eternal and blessed memory will forever live on in our hearts!

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that visitors give a donation for Hanna's urn travel costs to Ukraine.
