WITTEVEEN, Margaret McGlade (Martin) - Margaret (nee Martin), beloved wife of the late Benny Witteveen (d. 2002).

Loving mother to Susan (Dan) and Nancy (Peter) and the World’s Greatest Grandma to Charlie, Grace, Benjamin and Hannah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

A city girl, born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1935, Margaret embraced country living when she and Benny bought their 50 acre farm in Blackstock, Ontario in 1972.

There she practiced her own brand of ethical farming: naming and taming all of her pigs and lovingly tending to her labouring sows and their litters – the runt always survived and thrived on Margaret’s watch.

Margaret was a fiercely determined woman and this quality served her well and gave her a long and fulfilled life.

Marg’s grandchildren were everything to her - her love, laughter, generosity and pride knew no bounds when it came to them. She often said that the best years of her life began when her grandchildren were born.

Margaret is also survived by her brothers John (Margot) and Dennis; her aunt Kathy (Bill); niece Kate; and nephews Michael and Rob.

Susan and Nancy wish to thank the many wonderful caregivers over the last tumultuous year as mum’s health deteriorated, especially her palliative care team at Yee Hong Peter Kwok Hospice.

We also deeply appreciate the kindness and helpfulness of extended family, friends and colleagues.

Susan and Nancy have been celebrating Margaret’s 86 years and will honour her memory in a private service on the farm this Spring.
