GILLARD, Bella - (1933 - 2021) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mom and grandmother, Bella Gillard (nee Sawyer), on June 8, 2021.
Mom was born in London, UK and at the age of 23 she courageously travelled to Canada on her own to start a new life.
After a couple of years, she met and married George and they began what would become a fun and adventurous marriage for 57 years that included two daughters, Deborah (Vern) and Lynda (Neil).
Her greatest joy was when she became a grandmother to four children, Michael, Nicholas, Samantha and Ryan. Many years were spent sharing meals together and extended family vacations.
She was a wonderful grandmother who was generous with her time helping to raise them to become delightful adults. Mom has now left us to be with dad and we are going to miss her, more than words can say. She was our greatest champion, our wise advisor and our best friend.
We would like to thank the incredible Chartwell Pickering City Centre team for their care and support of mom, ensuring she was safe, especially during these challenging times.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bay and Cheryl Pike for their wise guidance and compassion as well as the nurses in ICU and 4 West at Ajax, Pickering Hospital.
Due to Covid-19, a private service with immediate family has been held.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
