Hoad MaryHOAD, Mary (Mae)  -   July 27, 1926 – June 19, 2021

Passed away peacefully at Wynfield LTC Oshawa on Saturday June 19, 2021.

Loving mother of Jim, Linda (Garth), Ron (Diane) and stepmother to Linda (Keith), Susanne (Brent), Jeannie (Karl).

Predeceased by brothers Omery, Bob, Roy, Stan, Don and Frank.

Cherished grandmother and great grandmother.

As a teenager Mae worked at the munitions factory in Whitby during WWII building boxes for ammunition to be shipped out.

She enjoyed the monarchy.

As a young girl she went with her family to Toronto to see Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in a parade.

Mae also enjoyed talking about the tractor she drove on the roads of Port Perry – her feet barely able to reach the gas pedal.

Mae loved to attend the church services around the communities of Durham Region.

Her vast areas of volunteering included band member of the Whitby Seniors’ Centre playing the organ, accordion and the ukulele.

Mae was nominated for Senior Volunteer of the Year award.

Mae’s love of music was the light of her life and through it she passed that joy onto everyone she knew.

Special thank you to Sarah Roger and staff at Chartwell Colonial Retirement Home Whitby and to the staff of Chartwell Wynfield LTC Oshawa.

A memorial service will be held at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby on Friday June 25th.

Once the family have confirmed their guest list, an RSVP service will be set up on the Barnes website.

We encourage anyone who wishes to attend to call the funeral home for information, (905-655-3662).

In memory of Mae, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Messages of condolence are welcome to barnesmemorialfuneralhome.com .
