Whyte KevinWHYTE, Kevin Gordon  - May 9, 1956 – June 20, 2021

It is with great sadness and loving memories that the family of Kevin Whyte announces his passing on June 20, 2021 surrounded by the love of his family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer.

Kevin leaves behind his best friend and wife of 26 years, Kim (nee Kelly).

Beloved father of Joshua, Andrew and Jillian.

Predeceased by his parents Anne and Gordon Whyte. Eldest brother of Karen, Kathy, Glenda (Brenda), and Leanne (Darcy).  Brother-in-law to Scott Kelly and his wife Yolanda.

Uncle to Justin Whyte, Robin Lummiss, Alex and Emma Kelly, Brittney and Danielle (Andrew Alarie) and Great-Uncle to Kyla. Longtime friend of Don and Edna Latimer.

Kevin was born and raised in Oshawa and had many happy childhood memories and tales to tell from summers spent at the family cottage on Tait Lake near Bancroft with friends, family and his many cousins.

He had a love for music and the uncanny ability to pick up any instrument and play it.

Kevin also loved his sports, especially hockey, and after a work accident at age 19 left him no longer able to participate, he took to coaching the Leafs from his spot in front of the TV.

He was an animal lover and a great cook whose family will certainly miss his delicious meals, along with his witty one-liners.

Kevin enjoyed a successful career with G.M. as a supervisor in the Oshawa Truck Assembly Plant. Kevin gave in death as he gave in life, donating tissue so that others could have the gift of sight.

He will be forever loved and forever missed.

Thank you to the wonderful staff from the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Emergency Department and Palliative Care unit for their exceptional care and compassionate support.

The family extends our sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and assistance from our family, friends and co-workers.

As per Kevin’s wishes, cremation will take place followed by a graveside service, as permitted by the current Covid restrictions.

Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON CEMETERY and FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road, North, Oshawa.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Kevin’s memory can be made to the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, The Canadian Golden Retriever Adoption Service Inc., or a charity of choice.

God saw you getting tired, a cure not meant to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered “Come with me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you fade away,
although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, your tender hands at rest.
God took you home to prove to us he only takes the best.
