GATENBY, Sherrie Elizabeth Gatenby  -  Age 68, daughter of Edythe & Thomas Gatenby, died tragically in a house fire on June 25, 2021.

She is survived by her three children Michelle, Matthew, and Melanie, her sisters Lynda and Brenda, her brother Steven, her grandchildren Zachary, Riley, Austin, Alex, Daniel, Logan, Layla, and Devyn, her great grandchildren Kailer, Brooke, and Sarah, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was an exceptional pastry chef who loved to make treats for her family and taught her daughter Melanie all of her secrets, (with which Melanie added her own unique spin to make questionable cake creations.

She always went out of her way to care for and help anyone that needed her.  She didn't have a lot, but she would donate whatever she could to give small comfort to anyone that needed it. She was a best friend and confidant to her neighbour George, providing an ear and sharing her amazing energy to lift his spirits and care for him. He commented that he will never find another person as beautiful and kind, and even ten people could not replace her.

Our lives will never be the same, we all miss her terribly and cherish the memories we have.

Visitation will be held at Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. The visitation period from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. will be a private family visitation.  In keeping with Covid-19 regulations attendance will be limited.

There will not be a formal funeral, however, Pastor Bradley Peters from Murray St. Baptist Church will be saying a few words and anyone wishing to speak about Sherrie can do so at the visitation.
