Jewell BettyJEWELL, Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' - (September 28, 1925 – July 2, 2021)

DURHAM COLLEGE RETIREE 

Betty Jewell passed away at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Friday, July 2, 2021 at the age of 95.

Born in Woodville, Ontario, she was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd Jewell (deceased 1970) and was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Russell MacLeod, sister Barbara McEachern (Donald), brother-in-law Elwood Jewell (Irene) and nephew Wayne Jewell.

Cherished mother of Carol Bosman (Bram) and Lorna Hoar (Steve).

 

Proud Nana of Christopher (Barbara), Emily (Kyle), Matthew (Teanna), Jamie (Samantha) and Great Grandmother to Nolan, Cove, Marlee, Briar and Dean. 

Betty was a devoted member of St. Stephen’s United Church in Oshawa for over 65 years. She served in many roles including Elder, choir member, pianist, UCW secretary and founder of the senior’s group.

As the executive secretary to the head Librarian of Durham College for over 20 years, Betty made many friendships with both students and staff. She enjoyed attending the annual Durham College retirees' luncheon. 

She treasured family celebrations, cottage vacations and was blessed with a wide circle of friends. Her travels included trips across Canada, Europe, the British Isles, Florida, and cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. 

Betty will be fondly remembered by her cousins, friends, former Oshawa neighbours and the residents of Adelaide Place Retirement Community in Lindsay. She will be remembered for her love of music and her beautiful smile.

Betty’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the dedicated and supportive staff at Adelaide Place, where she had resided since 2017.

We thank the Lindsay Paramed PSWs and the nurses and staff at Ross Memorial Hospital for their care.

A private family service will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, July 7th at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, Oshawa. 

To honour Betty’s thoughtfulness and kindness to others, memorial donations to St. Stephen’s United Church Oshawa, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or your favorite  CHARITY would be appreciated.
