Nabereznyj MarthaNABEREZNYJ, Martha - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Nabereznyj (née Ficalowycz), who on June 30, 2021 was welcomed into the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father.

Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband Mitered Archpriest Roman Nabereznyj and her brothers Volodymyr and Ivan Ficalowycz.

She is survived by her dear sisters Daria Goshulak, Marusia Styranka and Neonila Pashkovsky.

Martha is remembered fondly by her grieving children Irene, Sophia, Roma (John) and Ivan (Vanessa), as well as her 11 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews around the world.

Born in Wyniawka, Ukraine, her family fled the country when she was 12, traversing through Germany and Tunisia before landing in Toronto and building a life in Canada.

A devoted wife and loving mother, Martha assisted her husband as they served parishes in Timmins, Chatham, Scarborough and Oshawa. She will be remembered as a master organizer and dedicated volunteer who was widely recognized as a pillar of the Ukrainian community.

Martha embodied Ukrainian culture. She collected regional costumes, embroidery, pysanky, artwork and sang in many choirs. She was a longstanding member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and was the cultural representative in many other organizations.

Always impeccably dressed, she cherished her time at the cottage with her large and loving family.

Thank you to the Sts. Peter and Paul Residence administration, nursing staff and PSWs for their kindness and care during a difficult time.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Roma for going above and beyond as Martha's primary caregiver in her final months. Your devotion and generosity will never be forgotten.

Due to pandemic considerations, a private funeral will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the UCWLC St. Nicholas branch and Sts. Peter and Paul Residence.
