VAN DEN BERG, Peter - It is with great heartbreak that the family of Peter van den Berg announce the passing of their treasured Schatz, Dad and Opa, in his 83rd year, on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
Peter sadly leaves behind his beloved wife Anneliese (née Adam) of almost 59 years and their children Chris (Jennifer) of Peterborough, Eckhard (Kelly) of Port Perry, and Inge of Toronto.
Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Sarah, Kaileigh (Cam), Mitch, and Alex.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, he pursued his passion of agriculture and fulfilled his dream by moving his family to Canada in 1974, where he farmed and enjoyed the beauty of Ontario’s rural landscape.
He had a love of everything outdoors, music (especially classical), movies (particularly Westerns), and was an avid reader of all genres of books.
His greatest source of pride was his family, their accomplishments and spending time together. He taught his family the value of hard work, witty humour, dancing with everyone in the room, family gatherings, and appreciating the simple pleasures of life.
In the words of Hank Williams, we can hear him say “I’ll never get out of this world alive.”
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will be held.
Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Peter’s life in their own way, but ideally to find a place where you can enjoy an aspect of nature, either with the rising morning sun or evening’s soft light, and raise a glass of their favourite drink in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by Peter’s family.
