SMITH, Marlene Smith (Bain) - 84 of Pickering passed away July 10th, 2021 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
She was born to parents William & Christina Bain, January 15th, 1937, in Aberdeen, Scotland.
She is survived by her husband Alex Smith, daughters Karen (Mike) & Diane (Bob), Son Kevin, grandchildren Kathryn, Christine, Sarah (Dillon), Laura, Julie (Andre), Kim (Eric), and Kristy (Craig) great-grandchildren Brycen, Jaxon, Easton, Tenley and Stella, sisters Gladys, Patricia (Fred), Ann (Terry) and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Marlene fought an 11-year battle with Alzheimer's and was feisty till the end. She was a beautiful lady inside and out, her smile lit up a room.
She loved singing, dancing and playing the piano.
When visiting Scotland she always went to Eilean Donan Castle, we called it Mum’s Castle. Marlene & Alex were married for 63 years and brought their family to Canada 50 years ago.
Marlene was a stay at home Mum, who went back to work when the kids grew up. Swimming, Tennis, Hikes in the woods and going to the beach were her favourite things to do.
Show her a beach where she could go swimming and she was happy. There will be no service as the family wishes to mourn in private.
Marlene’s ashes will be scattered in a local river so she can continue to enjoy the beauty around her.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
