WESTLAKE, Thelma Marie (FOSTER)- (1923 - 2021) - August 9th brought both sadness and relief to our family when our dear, sweet mother passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa (8G).

Five weeks earlier, Mom took a fall at home and suffered a fractured pelvis. Despite the love and care that she received from her nurses, she suffered complications, and lost her final battle. We were sad to lose this beautiful soul, but relieved that her suffering was over.

Mom was born in Madoc into a loving family of six girls and two boys.

Her parents, Carman and Evelyn, owned a local dairy farm and by the time she was six years old, she was delivering milk door to door from a horse and carriage driven by her dad and then rushing off to school. After graduating from high school, she moved to Whitby with her family.

When the war ended, her sweetheart Jack, returned from the fighting in Europe and they married in 1946. Over the next 70 years, they made their home in Whitby, and then Kendal and finally in Oshawa.

During this time, they developed many close friendships with neighbours, especially at Westminster United Church and Kendal United Church.

They served as honorary Elders and Treasurers at Kendal United. Mom was a "stay at home mom" and was totally dedicated to her three children, David, Larry and Joyce. She encouraged and inspired us and was always our greatest cheerleader.

She continued this same devotion with her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren-she was never happier than when we all got together. Dad was retired for 41 years and with mom's planning, they enjoyed many trips and vacations until dad passed away in 2016 in his 97th year.

Mom's biggest disappointment in her life came when she lost her precious daughter, Joyce, who was the centre of Mom's life until she suddenly passed away in her 64th year.

Besides Dad and Joyce, Mom was predeceased by brothers Russ (Kay) and Jack (Isobel) and sisters Dorothy (Jack), Barb (Don) and Jean. She is survived by Dave (Lydia), Larry (Marilyn) and Dennis Doner (Joyce), grandchildren Lisa, Kelly, Kevin (Allison), Melissa, Emily (Scott), Becky (Steve), Jeff (Krista) and Julie.

Her great-grandchildren Silas, Sloan, Micah, Charlie and Irene will miss the love and affection they always got from her. She is also survived by sisters Lois (Steve) and Judy and brother-in-law Lorne Penfound (Jean).

A family service, restricted by Covid, will be held. However, when restrictions are lifted, a celebration of Mom's life will be held for family, friends and neighbours.

If desired, donations in her memory may be made to a  CHARITY of your choice.
