ETHERTON, Luz Divina (Orge) - (January 14, 1933 - December 3, 2021)

Luz Divina (Divine Light) passed away quietly at St Andrews Terrace in Cambridge, Ontario after a brief illness.

Life was never easy for Luz. We know snippets of her childhood and harsh upbringing under the control of strict nuns. We know that work was a big part of her life even from childhood.

Coming to Canada as an immigrant is never easy but she dedicated herself to providing for the family.  That meant different jobs and many hours out of the home.

Luz was a hard worker and never stopped until her health didn’t allow her to continue.

Resilient is one word that described Luz, another is generous.  Recognizing her debt of love to the God of her salvation, Luz was generous and giving to the church and the needs of those less fortunate.

Luz will be sadly missed by her devoted family.

Sadly, Luz was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Harold Etherton, Sr.

She was a beloved mom to Rick Etherton, Harold Etherton (Carol), and Lillian Horne (Tim).  Cherished Granny/Abuela to her grandchildren Jesse Etherton (Rachel), Lorax Horne, Mark Etherton, Katie Horne, Nick Etherton (Erin), Jono Horne (Emma). Beloved, never to be forgotten sister to Isabel, Nora, Elsa, Andres, Emilio, Aurora, Raul, Miguel, and Matilde.

She delighted in the next generation, her great-grandchildren Kaitlyn (Jesse & Rachel) and Simon (Nick & Erin).  Sister-in-Law Joyce Etherton & her husband John Etherton (deceased)  provided Luz and Harold Etherton, Sr (deceased) with their first home in Canada.

She will also be missed  by Carolanne and Dan Allen, Kayla (Chris), Daniel, Emily, David Etherton and many other extended family and friends both in Canada and South America.

In her honour, in lieu of flowers, our family humbly requests donations to one of Mom’s favourite charities: Hope of Bastion School in Ecuador  https://www.msccanada.org/projects/hope-bastion-school/  OR Mail your donation to: MSC Canada, 101 Amber St. Unit 16, Markham, L3R 3B2  - Hope of Bastion School.

A private funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 8th in Uxbridge.
