SCHAPER, Frank Thomas   - April 17, 1949 – December 20, 2021

Frank Thomas Schaper passed away suddenly on December 21, 2021 in Oshawa, Ontario.

Frank was born in Bolsward, Holland and immigrated at age 11 with his family of origin to Canada in 1950.

Although having to leave school after Grade 8 (age 14) to help his family financially, he eventually through night school and day school, became a teacher for 33 years, also earning a B.A. degree in Political Science at the University of Toronto.

Frank is survived by his wife Marion, (nee Kime), the love of his life after 59 years together. His parents Blanche and Andrew Schaper predeceased him.

He will be greatly missed by his sons Andrew (Krystyna), Grant (Valerie), Kirk (Elissa) and 5 grandsons; Nathan, Justin, Gregory, Aidan, and Nolan. His sisters Ellen (Ilhan - predeceased) and Helen and his brothers Lou (Fran), Peter (Marja) and John (Lynne) are grieving him, as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces in North America and Holland.

Frank's Christian faith was an essential part of his life, actively involved with the local St. Andrew's Church as well as international missions that provided schooling for children in poorer countries.

As a father he raised his sons to understand the importance of work, honesty and laughter, nurturing an enterprising spirit in self-business earning their money for university.

Frank believed in education so after he retired from teaching he volunteered and promoted non-profit organizations, such as Mustard Seed, Arms of Jesus, and World Vision to provide education for children in countries where it is not provided freely. He also promoted good Government and spent 9 years as Ward 1 Councillor on Ajax Council.

His passion was dealing in antiques and collecting vintage metal toys.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service planned for Spring 2022 if Covid conditions permit.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to these two local organizations: Mustard Seed International, 226-1885 Clements Road, Pickering, Ontario L1W 3V4.   Arms of Jesus, Box 10, Pickering, Ontario L1V 2R2.
