HANKE, Erwin Hanke - August 13th, 1929 - Monday, January 3rd, 2022
With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Erwin Hermann Hanke at Sunnycrest Nursing Home on January 3, 2022 at the age of 92.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Stefanie (née Milek) of 40 years and his brother (Herbert Hanke).
He leaves his sister (Hildegard Tiesler); two children: Art Hanke (Raffaela Figliano) and Bob Hanke (Selene Strilesky); two grandchildren (Max Hanke, Callum Hanke).
Born in Sakrau, Germany (Zakrzów, Poland), his family then moved to Salzgitter, where he apprenticed in a factory.
After immigrating to Canada in 1951, he moved to Oshawa to work as a tool and die maker at General Motors, buy a home, and start a family.
He worked at GM from 1952 until his retirement in 1994.
For many years, he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and summer time at the cottage.
As per Erwin’s wishes, a private burial will take place at Thornton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada.
