SPENCER, Brian Spencer  - 1940 - 2022  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Spencer on April 26, 2022 at the age of 81.

He passed away of a heart attack after a short illness.

Caring husband of Clarellen Spencer.

Loving father to Clayton Spencer (Katie) and Jennifer Spencer (Ron).

Cherished grandfather of Jordan, Alexa, Ross and Sophie. He was pre-deceased by his parents Roy and Winnie Spencer.  Brian had many passions in life.

He was an avid long-distance runner for many years. He enjoyed swimming, canoeing, and slo-pitch baseball, which he played well into his 60’s. He was a great wilderness camping enthusiast, and was undaunted by mile-long portages well into his 70’s.

Brian was a long-time Liberal supporter, and for many years he was a familiar face canvassing for local candidates in Pickering. Brian had a strong belief in God, and was involved in the spiritual life at St. Martin’s Anglican Church for many years. An entire generation of youngsters learned about the Bible from Brian’s teachings in Sunday School.

Brian’s life was not without challenges. He was an alcoholic. However, he joined Alcoholics Anonymous and was sober for the last twenty-five years of his life. Not only did he maintain his own sobriety, but he reached out to other alcoholics and opened his home to them, offering them a place to stay when other doors were closed.

He showed unfailing kindness and patience to those who needed help. Brian had a positive impact on those around him, and he will be sorely missed.

In the last days of his life at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital, Brian was shown great care and compassion by the healthcare staff.

We are thankful that at such a difficult time, Brian was shown such kindness. We are forever grateful.

Visitation at St. Martin's Anglican Church on April 30, 2022 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  Funeral Service from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Martin's Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
