SWAIN, Hugh James Swain  - Hugh went to be with the Lord in his 85th year on May 10, 2022.

He died peacefully in his sleep at home with loved ones by his side.

Hugh was devoted to his family and was deeply loved by his wife of 60 years, Donna and his children Cindy (Rob) Archibald, the late Kathy (James) Schmidt, Diane (Murray) Rundle and Andrea (Ralph) Spoltore.

Hugh was a wonderful grandpa to Eric, Kyle and Nicole Archibald; Jake, Adam, Nathan, Emily and Hannah Schmidt; Matt (Hanna), Ben, Josh and Grace Rundle; Kenzie and Johnny Spoltore; and papa to Christian Archibald.

He is also fondly remembered by his sister Jean Tanczos, his brother Ron (Barb) Swain, his brother-in-law Paul (Diane) Kerr and many nieces and nephews.  Hugh grew up on a family farm on Lake Scugog in Valentia.  Hugh graduated from the University of Toronto with a BASc in Electrical Engineering and later joined Andrew Canada Inc. where he spent 29 years, finishing his career as General Manager and President.

Hugh gave back to his community in a variety of ways including many years on the boards of IEEE Canadian Foundation, Durham Region Manufacturers Association and Whitby General Hospital.

He was an active church leader serving on the deacons board and missions committee, as well as leading Sunday school and small group Bible studies.

Hugh’s favourite place was the cottage he finished building himself, where he would spend his summers with family and his winters snowmobiling. His wise counsel, generosity, integrity, and witty sense of humour will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral arrangements  on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, Whitby.

Donations in memory of Hugh to Calvary Baptist Church Oshawa or Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
