Heyes GeorgeHEYES, George Leslie Heyes  -  July 29, 1929 – June 12, 2022

It is with heavy hearts the family of Les Heyes announce his passing on Sunday June 12th, 2022, at the age of 92.

He was born in Widnes England to the late Francis and Mary Heyes.

Cherished Husband and best friend of Mary Heyes for 71 years. Loving and proud Dad of Katrine (late – Steve), Sherryl (Pat) and Ross (Nuala).

Fun loving Gramps to Connie, Corinne, Nicole, Chris, Lesley, Lindsay, and Matthew. His grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. Les was blessed with 14 Great Grandchildren whom he adored and loved having around him.

Les married Mary in St. Lukes Farnworth Church, in Widnes, Lancashire on June 9th, 1951.

Their adventure began as they travelled to Canada on the R.M.S Nova Scotia Cargo Ship, arriving in Halifax then boarding a train to Toronto, Ontario to continue their adventurous life path.

Friends and family called him Les which best suited his free spirit. Les worked many years as a well respected machinist including working on the Avro Arrow. He wasn’t all work no play, Les had a creative side enjoying making things from nature or any other item he could find. Les became a prolific poet, creating heartfelt poetry for family and friends.

He enjoyed nature, camping and eventually owning his dream cottage on Kapikog Lake. Spending his time with dear friends and family at the cottage always put a smile on his face.

Paddling around the lake for hours with his beloved wife Mary.  Les loved getting to know people, opening his heart, home and cottage to friends. Les moved to Whitby and joined the senior center making many wonderful friends, becoming a darting champion, enjoying lawn bowling and being the best dance partner for Mary and the ladies at the center.

The family would be honoured to have you join them in a Celebration of Life at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, Ontario (289-204-3327) on Friday June 24th, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.

Special thanks to the friends and neighbours who helped Les & Mary to enjoy their beautiful home for many extra years.

Extreme gratitude to all the wonderful people at the Village of Taunton Mills who became his second family over the last couple of years, enjoying his huge smile and many winks!

Online condolences may be made at oshawafuneralhome.com .

Family would be appreciative of donations in memory of Les to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society.
