Sadly, Katherine Stevenson Helleur passed away on Monday, September 12th, 2022 in her 102nd year at the Wynfield Long Term Care Home in Oshawa.

She is survived by her long-time best friend, Lillian Beamish, who resides at the Wynfield, as well as her nephew John Dreyer and his wife Hedy, of Toronto.

She is predeceased by her parents, Edith Van Sittart Stevenson and Philip Pierson Helleur and her sister, Morel, and brother-in-law, William Dreyer.
Katherine, or Kay, as she is best known, had a remarkable life.

She was an avid golfer who championed the Canadian Ladies’ Amateur Team at the 1966 World Cup in Mexico; designed, built, and operated her own golf course, Woodbridge Golf and Country Club; founded the Ada Mackenzie Memorial Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization which supported disabled athletes in honour of Canada’s first outstanding female golfer; and won the Canadian National Senior Women’s Golf Championship in 1974.

She was inducted into both the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame.

Most recently at age 98, Katherine authored Walk the Green Fairways, a docu-memoir of her life’s adventures.

A visitation for Katherine will be held on Monday, October 3rd, 2022 at  MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME , 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby, Ontario (905 443 3376) at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 noon.

Interment will take place at GROVESIDE CEMETERY, 5155 Baldwin St. S., Whitby, Ontario.

The family has asked that everyone please wear masks at the funeral home and be conscious of social distancing protocols to protect all present from the dangers of COVID.

A special thank you to the caring staff of Lynde Creek Retirement Home, Whitby and to the Wynfield Long Term Care Residence who treated Kay so lovingly during her last days there.
