Sawtell AlanSAWTELL, Alan Edgar  -

FEBRUARY 17, 1948 – MARCH 22, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Sawtell, of Oshawa, Ontario.

Al was born on February 17th, 1948, in Kitchener, ON to parents Lyla Allen and Digby Roland Sawtell and late brother John, who could make him, laugh like no other.

Al was a lifelong educator, teaching and working in school administration positions in Scarborough and Durham Region for his whole career.

He was a beloved teacher, administrator, and colleague to many.

Al was a member and past president of the PROBUS Club of Oshawa, roles which he loved. He was an avid fisherman, quick with a joke, and loved to laugh and enjoy life. He truly valued the time he spent at the family cottage with his family and friends, and always took pride in a successful “catch” on the water.

Al held his many friends in Oshawa and surrounding areas in high regard. Most importantly, he was a dedicated, caring, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather whose unwavering support allowed his family to become who they are.

Al is survived by his two children, Lisa (Shane, Son-in-Law) and Paul (Grace, Daughter-in-Law), his four grandchildren, Jack, Emma, Oscar and Lily, and wife Lynne, his partner of over 50 years and with whom he will forever be “one” with.

He also leaves behind his two pups, Canada and Babe, who have lovingly taken his spot on the bed. Al will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank Marianna and the rest of the team at Lakeridge’s Cancer Centre, for their unwavering support. There will be a celebration of life in May of 2023, and the date and location are to be determined.

Donations in honour of Al can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
