MISZTAL, Tomasz Misztal -
June 11, 1979 – May 5, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Tomasz (Tom) Misztal on May 5, 2023, at the age of 43, from a hard-fought battle with a rare form of cancer.
Tom was born in Gdansk, Poland, to Witold and Teresa Misztal on June 11, 1979, and immigrated to Canada at the age of five.
After spending a few months in Toronto, they settled in the town of Waubaushene, Ontario.
As an adult, Tom made his way back to Toronto, graduating from the University of Toronto’s civil engineering program in 2002.
He worked with various engineering firms, eventually ending up with Trow (later exp, inc.), and became their specialist in water testing walls and ceilings, to make sure they did not leak.
His interests ran the gamut from walks in nature to car racing and sharing laughs or spending time with his family and friends.
He passed down several of his passions to his children, Keadin and Magdalena (Maggie), including his video game obsession (Super Mario Bros., in particular), his unwavering support of the Buffalo Bills, and his massive hip-hop collection (the real stuff, not the stuff on the radio nowadays).
He even enjoyed poking holes in all his wife’s baked goods so that he could taste-test them and was always discovering new coffee shops in a quest to find the best cup of coffee. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Christine (nee George), his two children, Keadin and Maggie, his parents Witold and Teresa, and family members in Canada and Poland. Also left to mourn are his sister-in-law, Emily George, many friends, and ‘the boyz’ who helped Tom keep a positive mindset in his final months. He was predeceased by his grandparents and father-in-law.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 18, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Oshawa Funeral Home (847 King St. West, Oshawa ON) All are welcome to attend the funeral service held Friday, May 19, at 10:30 am, with a celebration of life afterward from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm (both at Oshawa Funeral Home; light refreshments will be available).
Burial will follow afterward for family and close friends only. Tom was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
