Taylor MichaelTAYLOR, Michael Roy Taylor  -

July 7, 1947 - May 30, 2023

On May 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, Michael Roy Taylor went to be with his Lord & Saviour.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Pamela (nee Rowland), children Leslie Ann (Robert Welsh), Steven (Kim Davis) & Jamie (Cherron).

Adored Papa of 7 grandchildren, Taylor, Maxwell, Owen, Audrey, Trent, Gwendolyn & Annabelle.

Fondly remembered by Angela Taylor, Cole Davis & Chelsea Davis & Peggy Rodman.

Predeceased by his parents, Roy & Bernice Taylor of Cannington, and in-laws, Ernie & Beth Rowland of Whitby. He leaves behind his brothers Richard (Karen), Larry (Wendy), Carl (Carolyn) and in-laws, Jennifer (Robert Black), Mark Rowland (Eileen), Terry Rowland (Debbie) along with extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mike’s smile will be missed by many friends throughout North America & abroad.

Mike moved to Whitby at the age of 16 to play hockey for the Whitby Jr. B Dunlops. For over 40 years he coached hockey & lacrosse in Oshawa and Whitby. His coaching continued from the lobbies and sidelines, as ‘Coach Papa’, to his athletic grandchildren and their teammates.

A welder by trade, Mike was a member of Ironworkers Local 721.

Living his adult life with a personal relationship with Jesus provided Mike with leadership roles on various committees and board of directors throughout the evangelical communities of Oshawa. His love of travel and adventure, especially cruising, led to many happy memories with Pam and many friends.

A humble, kind, selfless man, and out of the box thinker; Mike gave of himself to many people. Mike was a fierce competitor and he has won the race to which God has called him heavenward.

Visitation will be held at Evangel Church, 374 Farewell Ave, Oshawa on Wednesday June 7th from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place at Trinity Church, 900 King St. E. Oshawa at 2:00 pm on Thursday June 8th, with a visitation for out of town guests prior to the celebration from 12:00pm - 1:30pm. A private interment will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express its thanks to the Durham Region First Responders Oshawa Fire Department, and the amazing Doctors and Nurses at Sunnybrook Hospital for their kindness and support in Mike’s care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s name to The Charles H. Diabetes Centre or Evangel Church, Oshawa.

All arrangements made through  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, Oshawa, ON.
