Fernihough JaniceFERNIHOUGH, Janice Rosemarie Fernihough

May 25, 1959 - June 3, 2023

Passed away at Oak Ridges Hospice on Saturday June 3rd, 2023 with her family by her side at the age of 64.

Survived by her husband David of 42 years. Loving Mother of Timothy Fernihough and his wife Joanna of Brampton, Matthew Fernihough and his fiancé Katie Bowman of Oshawa and Tiffany Fernihough and her partner Joseph Pascuzzi of Guelph.

Cherished Nana of Benjamin, Caynan and Brooklyn.

Dear sister of Pat Neale and her husband David, John Pierroz and his wife Sharon, Karen Eagleson and her husband Mark, Marie Venton and her husband Paul, Rosanne Janicki and Joanne Chovance and her husband Jeff.

Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families as well as many cherished friends.

Janice’s life in music began at a young age with singing lessons at the Hamilton Conservatory of Music and singing in school choirs.  Janice met Dave, her future husband, at the age of 15.

It was the beginning of a lifelong relationship and musical career together as they lead the music ministry at many churches including St Jean Brebeuf of Erin, and St Leos and Holy Family of Whitby.

Over her many years of service to her passion, she was involved with the Bel Canto Choir, County Town Singers, Durham Region Police Choir and St. Margaret Mary of Hamilton, among others.

Many will also remember her voice and passion at key Catholic holidays such as Christmas and Easter and at many life celebrations such as baptisms, confirmations, weddings and funerals.

It was of such importance and a passion to her that she encouraged David to continue giving after she left this world.

First inspired by her parents John and Doreen’s support of learning, Janice constantly encouraged us all to enrich ourselves through higher education, teaching and mentorship. Janice will be fondly remembered for her love for her family, her kindness and generosity, her sense of fashion style, her faith, and her unfailing optimism.

Visitation at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby on Wednesday June 7th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:0 – 8:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church 91 Ribblesdale Drive Whitby on Thursday June 8th at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Whitby.

Flowers are welcome and memorial donations can be made to Oak Ridges Hospice, Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital and the Krembil Brain Institute.
