Cox MargaretCOX, Margaret Gertrude (nee Broadfoot)  - May 10, 1924 to Jan 17, 2018.

Mom passed away rapidly, quietly and peacefully at 93 years of age due to cancer.

Mom is predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald Kenneth Cox, her parents Edward and Dorathea Broadfoot (nee Maclure), her two elder sisters Doris (the late Joe Brisbin) and Agnes Broadfoot.

She is survived by her younger sister Ruth (the late Walter Lutz) of Leduc, AB, her sister-in-law Isabel Cox, her four children Joanne, David (Joyce Turner-Cox) of Minnedosa, MB, Robert (Monique Coll-Cox) of Port Hope and James (Cindy Kelly), her six grandchildren Berek of Toronto, Laurelle of Toronto, Katie of Nanaimo, BC, Maddi of Minnedosa, MB, Brandon and Larissa, her great-grandchild Clementine and her dad Matthew Goldsmith of Vancouver, BC, her greatgrandchildren Elson and Saphyrra and their mom Sybille Scherer of Picton.

Many nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends have fond memories.

Mom was born and raised in the Municipality of Silver Creek, MB.

After training as a teacher in Winnipeg, she taught in St Mary’s and Dauphin, MB and then taught in the logging camps outside Duncan, BC.

Mom came east to train as a nurse at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital (now Ontario Shores) with semesters at Toronto General for geriatrics and obstetrics.

Graduating in the class of 1951, she married Ron, the love of her life, and settled in Ajax.

Subsequent moves took them to Oshawa, Ville de Lorraine, PQ (twice) and back to Oshawa again.

Marg and Ron lovedtheir family, their cats and dogs, reading, musicals, gardening, curling, skiing, summer life at Mazinaw Lake, canoe treks and portaging in the wilderness, travelling across Canada and the USA and overseas, and dinners at the local pub.

Marg enjoyed her monthly meetings with her Stitch’n’Bitch group. Marg worked as a volunteer in the Red Cross kiosk at Hillsdale Estates, and canvassed her neighbourhood annually for the Heart and Stroke and the Cancer Society campaigns.

Mom must have been a really, happy kid because she always had a smile on her face and was always helping someone even in the final years of Alzheimer’s.

Thank you to the folks at OSCC Northview and Faith Place day programs, Home Instead Senior Care, Revera Cedarcroft Retirement Residence, and Sunnycrest Nursing Homes Ltd.

We plan to have a Celebration of Life at  ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME , 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Saturday July 21st from 1pm.  Memorial Service in the chapel of the funeral home at 2pm.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

We will all miss her dearly.
