Hinchley EdwardHINCHLEY, Edward McDougall  -  Ed passed away quietly, at home on January 24, 2024, aged 84 years.

He handled a two-year fight with metastatic esophageal cancer as he lived, with gentle dignity and grace.

He maintained his independent spirit until the end.

Ed leaves his wife of 60 years, Janet (Bailey); his children, Christine (Douglas Patriarche) and David (Cheryl Spring); and grandchildren, Helen, Catherine, Liam and Sarah.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Lewis (Don). He was predeceased by his brother, John (Diane).

Ed was born and grew up in Owen Sound, Ontario. After studying Electrical Engineering (University of Toronto, BASC; University of Waterloo, MASC; P.Eng), Ed spent a long career at Atomic Energy of Canada.

Among the highlights of his career was his posting (with his family) to Japan as Canada's representative to the Japanese nuclear industry. Throughout his life, Ed enjoyed working on projects at home and the family cottage.

He surrounded himself with books, newspapers and journals, and was knowledgeable about almost any topic that came up. We will miss his lively conversations.

We are grateful for the excellent care Ed received at the Cancer Clinic at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

We want to thank the many doctors he saw, the palliative care team and his family doctor, Dr. Kate Healy. A gathering of friends and family will be held at his home in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation or a Charity of Your Choice.
