Ronald William Evans

Ronald William Evans, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Brantford General Hospital. Born in York County, Toronto, Ontario, on June 24, 1935, Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a celebrated educator and motorsport official.
Ron dedicated over 25 years teaching Industrial Arts at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School and later at Glenview Park Secondary School until his retirement in 1990. Afterward, he continued his passion for education at Conestoga College’s Trades & Apprentices School, supporting students in their Machine Shop training until 2000.
A motorsport enthusiast, Ron began competing in amateur racing in 1959 and won Production Class Championship titles in 1963 and 1964. He served as Chief Steward for Mosport International Raceway and Shannonville Motorsport Park from 1972 to 1982, officiating Formula One, IndyCar, and NASCAR races. Ron also approved the first competition licenses for racing legends Michael Andretti and Davy Jones Jr.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, William Stephen "Steve" and Margaret Emmaline Evans (née Stemmler), and his beloved wife, Sylvia (Freeland). He is survived by his daughter Colene Jennifer Margaret Allen, son William Thomas (Andrea Nicole Evans Smith), grandson Connor Stephen Allen, granddaughter Charlotte Helen Edith Haines, and great-granddaughter Ellie Rose Emberson. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Grahame Freeland (Patsy), nephews Aaron and Mark Freeland, nieces Michelle Freeland and Mandy Schaal, great-nephew William Freeland, and many former students, colleagues, and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brantford General Hospital, particularly the Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Palliative Care teams. Cremation has taken place, and a private Celebration of Life will be held in the late spring of 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation or Ducks Unlimited.
