SHIELDS, Freda -
Peacefully passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Hillsdale Estates, in her 101st year.
Predeceased by her beloved husband McGillvary (2005) and her son Barry (2013).
Loving mother of Brian (Beth) and Allan.
Cherished grandmother of Adam, Nathan, Stuart, Garrett, Sarah, Emily, and Kristen and great-grandmother of Bethany, Hannah, Henry, and Dylan.
Dear sister of Joan and Carol.
Freda came to Canada at four months old. She worked at General Motors before marrying McGillvary and starting a family. Together, they built their home on College Park, Oshawa, where they lived for over 70 years.
Freda enjoyed flowers and even had an award-winning garden.
She was a dedicated parishioner at St. John’s Anglican Church for many years.
Special thanks to the staff at Hillsdale Estates, Trillium Trails for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 10 – 11 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, Whitby.
A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church, Whitby.
