After a valiant and hard-fought battle with cancer, Edward Kelvir Erson Castator (Ted) passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Collingwood General Marine Hospital with his loving family by his side. Ted was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ted, of Wasaga Beach, was the best friend and devoted husband of Debbie (née Hutchison) for 41 wonderful years. He was the loving father of Cameron (Krista) and cherished and adoring Poppa to Addison and Aislynn. Ted will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Bev, his nephews, nieces, extended family, and dear friends.

Known for his quick wit, humor, hardy laugh, and immense love for his family, Ted was always someone you could count on. He had a remarkable talent for mechanics and building structures and was famous for his delicious tea biscuits, affectionately known as "Teddy Biscuits."

At Ted’s request, cremation has taken place. In memory of Ted, donations to the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, would be appreciated by the family. Donations can be made directly to The Royal Victoria Hospital of Barrie Foundation.

Carol Ann Smith (née Edwards)

June 16, 1939 - November 11, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Smith (née Edwards) on November 11, 2024, at the age of 85. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully at Meaford Long Term Care Home, surrounded by love.

Born in South Porcupine, Ontario, to William and Isobel Edwards, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Peter Ronald Smith, on June 22, 1962. They shared 62 years of marriage and 69 years of friendship, building a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Ann is survived by her loving husband, Peter, and her daughters: Lisa, Kirsti (Julius Horvath), Julie (Graeme Eastmure), and Michelle (Craig Dickie). She was a proud grandmother to Tim (Hannah), Melanie, Brian, Katelyn, Christopher, Allyson (Keegan), Megan, and Leah, and a doting great-grandmother to Emerson. Ann will be dearly missed by her siblings, Susan Marshall (Victor) and William "Billy" Edwards (Debby), along with numerous extended family members and friends.

A graduate of the University of Toronto in Physical and Occupational Therapy, Ann began her career at SickKids, Women’s College, and North York General Hospitals before joining her husband at Smith’s Pharmacy, where they pioneered innovations in compounding and natural health. Her passion for caregiving and helping others defined her career and touched countless lives.

Ann and Peter’s life together was rich with shared adventures, from summers on Georgian Bay at 12 Mile Bay to winters skiing at Alpine Ski Club. They later built their dream home on Georgian Bay near Thornbury, creating a family haven filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Ann’s love for her family was boundless, and her nurturing spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Despite facing Alzheimer’s in her later years, Ann’s strength, grace, and humor shone through, leaving a lasting legacy of love.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Meaford Long Term Care Home for their compassionate care. August 7, 1931 - November 11, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Elizabeth Latimer (née Glionna) announces her peaceful passing on November 11, 2024, at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, Ontario, at the age of 93.

Joan was a beloved mother to Shelley Latimer (James Glasspool) and Ian Latimer (Iris Puntanen), and a proud grandmother to Jamie, Kate Glasspool, Sarah, and Erin Latimer. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Jim Glionna (late Pat), nephew Joe Glionna (Maud Bones), and nieces Lillian, Dalia, and Evelyn, as well as countless friends and the many lives she touched along the way.

Born in Toronto’s Beach neighborhood, Joan graduated from Ryerson in Journalism, beginning her career at Eaton’s Company newspaper. She later became editor of the Beach Metro News, where she worked for 22 years, helping turn it into a thriving community publication. Joan was inducted into the Beach Roll of Honour in 1997 for her achievements as a Beach resident.

Joan had a lifelong love for skiing, curling, and adventure. She traveled extensively to places like China, Vietnam, the Baltic, and Cuba, and immersed herself in the vibrant communities of Toronto and Collingwood. Known for her curiosity and technological adaptability, Joan stayed informed through her many subscriptions and engaged conversations about global politics and current events.

A dedicated grandmother, Joan cherished her grandchildren’s visits and calls. Her sense of humor, wit, strength, and independence were an inspiration to many. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Jean Demers (née Brander) on November 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 1, 1951, in Oakville, Ontario, Gloria lived a life full of love, kindness, and strength.

Gloria was the devoted wife of Darol Demers, with whom she shared a bond of unwavering love. She was a cherished mother to Jamie (Kathleen), Laura (Troy), and Daryl (Eric) and a proud and adoring "Meme" to her grandchildren, Dylan, Kade, Quinn, and Kieran. Gloria's warmth and kindness extended to all her family and friends.

A dedicated hairstylist, Gloria served her community through her own shop and at local nursing homes, where she brought comfort and joy to her clients. Her fierce love, loyalty, and ability to treat clients like family made her an integral part of the community.

Gloria faced her cancer journey with courage and on her own terms, surrounded by the family she adored. Her family has celebrated her life as she lived it—filled with love, laughter, and fond memories, often with a beer raised in her honor.

Katherine Elizabeth “Katy” Chana (née Houston) passed away peacefully at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood, on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the age of 71. Katy was a caring aunt, devoted sister, neonatal nurse, world traveler, and avid reader whose compassion and spirit touched many lives.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Gurmeet Chana, and her parents, Bill and Kally Houston, Katy is lovingly remembered by her sister, Ginny Benbow, her brothers, John, Ian (Lorraine), and Bill Houston, and her many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to her caregiver, Geraldine Frail, as well as to Dr. Wells, the doctors and staff at CGMH, RVH, and the staff and volunteers at Campbell House, Hospice Georgian Triangle, for their exceptional care.
