Richard 'Rick' Cook

December 20, 2024

With heavy hearts we share the peaceful passing of Rick on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of Joan for 45 wonderful years. Devoted father of Kim Cook (Bob Cudmore), Jennifer Kessell (Tanner), James Gainey, and Ricki-Anne. Cherished grandfather of Madison (Sam), Megan (Tristan), Callum, Brendan, and Curtis. Loving brother of Jim. Predeceased by his brother Allen. Rick will be sadly missed by his extended family and close friends, especially Ed and Lorraine.

Rick was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. His family meant the world to him and he was very proud of his children and grandchildren. His willingness to mentor and guide all those who he met throughout his life will be remembered by many.

A Celebration of Life will be held in March 2025, details to be confirmed.

Valerie Ann McKinley

It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Valerie on December 12, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Valerie leaves behind her adored children Michelle McKinley (Timothy Arseneault) and Mark McKinley (Shannon McLeod). Cherished grandma of Adley and Aria.

Beloved sister of Dianne Ross (Hugh), Ken Partridge (Gail), Sue Fitzwilliam (Ron Morck), and Barb Kramer (Doug). Dear aunt of Patricia, Heather, Caitlin, Steve, Kerri, Ryan, Brett, and Trevor. Predeceased by her parents John & Arvilla Partridge.

Lovingly remembered by John Van Stiphout and Brian McKinley.

Valerie will be sadly missed by many extended family members and her wonderful circle of friends.

Valerie was retired from Service Canada, which allowed her to spend time with her family and friends. She was the very best friend anyone could wish for. She put everyone else first and was there to help in any way she could. She often showed her tremendous love and support for everyone around her and could be counted on to help out in any way. Naturally, she was a big fan of Hallmark movies, especially during the Christmas season. Her other pastimes included bingo and card games.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to John for all of his support for Valerie.

Please join with the family for a Celebration of Life Service at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service.

Douglas Arthur Frost

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Arthur Frost, who lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, December 12 at the age of 68.

The beloved son of the late Ernest and Doris Frost. Devoted husband to Sharon Mulvaney, stepfather to Patrick (Angie), Curtis (Paula) and Michael (Nicole) and proud grandfather to Peter, Christopher, Caelan, Lybbie, Taya, Maizie and Finn. Doug was also cherished by his sisters, Helen (Tom), Arlene, Shirley (late), brothers Bobby (late) and Gord (Peggy) as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Although Doug, was estranged from his daughters Katie and Ceallaigh (late) and grandchildren CJ and Hunter, he always carried them in his heart.

Known for his large personality, filled with warmth, humour, and generosity, Doug touched many lives in Lake St. Peter, Acapulco, Hastings, and Zephyrhills, where he shared countless memories with close friends. Forever the life of the party and legendary host of Tequila Tuesdays, he brought people together with laughter, stories, and, of course, margaritas.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Doug will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.

Sandra Jane McKinney

Tuesday, December 17th, 2024

With the heaviest of hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Sandra McKinney at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on December 17, 2024, surrounded by her family at the age of 82.

Beloved wife of the late Daniel. Cherished mother of Angie Doyle (Bob), Ginny Levy (and the late Marty) and Trish Collett (Scott). Proud grandmother of Matthew (Heather), Amanda, Christopher (Dani), Nicole and Nicholas. Great grandmother of Katlyn, Griffin and Axton.

Sandra will be lovingly remembered by her many family members and friends.

Sandra was always there to help everyone. She was a tremendous friend and neighbour. Her family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an incredible mother and mentor to her family. Sandra was an amazing baker, she always made everyone’s favourites on special occasions and fed anyone who was near. Feeding people was her way of expressing her appreciation and love, through baking and sharing. Baseball was another passion of Sandra’s, she was a pitcher when she played in her younger years. The BlueJays were her baseball team, she always enjoyed watching the games and coached them from the comfort of her home. Later in life, Sandra learned to read and write, which she and her family were so proud of. She became a veracious reader and enjoyed romance mystery books and word search books in her spare time.

Please join with the family on Sunday December 29th at 2pm for a Celebration of Sandra’s Life. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Service in the Chapel of Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. Cremation has taken place.

Elizabeth “Betty” Gilchrist

June 2, 1939 - December 14, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Elizabeth “Betty” Gilchrist, née Willsher, a Chrysler retiree, on December 14, 2024, at the age of 85. Betty was born on June 2, 1939, and passed away peacefully at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, surrounded by her loving sons, Randy (Dana) and Rick.

Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband of over 58 years, Jim, and her brothers, Bob (Lynda), Chuck (Joyce) and Dave (Diane). She is survived by her brother Ken (Sandy), who will cherish her memory. She was a loving grandmother to Katherine (Mike) and Paula (Jared), who will miss her dearly.
A talented folk artist, Betty was also known for creating beautiful, colourful crocheted blankets that brought warmth and joy to many.

A private prayer service will be held at a later date, at the Armstrong Funeral Home, located at 124 King St. East, Oshawa. Interment will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery on Taunton Rd in Whitby.

Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Betty's memory.

She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and the love she shared with all who knew her. Rest in peace.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Antonio Vicente Ribeiro on Friday, December 13, 2024, with his family by his side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Antonio leaves behind his adored wife, Irene, after 55 years of marriage. He was the cherished father of Guida (Michael) and Sandra (John), and the proud grandfather of Daniel, Anthony, Sarah, and Alexa. Antonio is survived by his loving sister, Ernelia, and was predeceased by his dear sisters, Maria Julia and Virginia. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses, especially those in the Critical Care and Palliative Units at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, for their exceptional care and compassion. Your support will always be remembered. Donations in Antonio’s memory to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

It is with great sadness, the family announces Gail’s passing on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 75.

Beloved wife of Wayne for over 54 years. Dear mother of Melanie (the late Sheldon Johnson) and Bryan. Cherished grandmother of Rylee and Hunter. Loving sister of Darlene Owen (Roy), Brenda Pelland (Ray), and Donna Kord (Maz). Gail will be sadly missed by all her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gail was a very dedicated teacher for many years. She will be remembered for her generosity and genuine care for her students and colleagues. She was a longtime active parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

As per Gail’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Cecilia Timperley

Saturday, December 7th, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Cecilia Timperley, who passed away on the morning of December 7, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Cecilia was the cherished daughter of Clive and the late June. She was the beloved sister of Caroline (Josh), Christian (Marie-Claude), Charlotte (Mark), and Clare (Brendan). Cecilia was also the adored Auntie to Egan, Avery, Julien, Georgia, and Alice. She will be dearly missed by her large extended family and friends.

Cecilia fully committed herself to everything she did throughout her life. An avid learner, she excelled in her studies, which took her to the University of Toronto: first, to St. Michael’s College, then the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, and then to the Toronto School of Theology. Her academic interests included female-oriented scholarship, the history of the Catholic Church, medieval and early modern history, and manuscript studies. Cecilia’s brilliance and perseverance led to her earning her Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Medieval Studies and, most recently, her Master’s Degree in Theological Studies.

Cecilia was always eager to take on new challenges, including teaching herself Spanish and being the best Auntie Cece to her nieces and nephews. Her latest passions included cheering for FC Barcelona, adding to her collection of turtlenecks and scarves, and anything bunny related.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King St. E., Oshawa. Prayers will take place at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 20 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of the People R.C.C, 570 Marion Avenue, Oshawa. A reception in the church hall will follow.

Dariusz 'Darek' Kulczynski

Monday, December 9th, 2024

Dariusz ‘Darek’ Kulczynski passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his wife by his side.
Beloved husband of Daniela for 37 years. Predeceased by his parents Ryszard & Irena in Poland.

Darek was a proud Engineer with Ontario Hydro/OPG for many years. He was a long-time member of St. Hedwig’s Polish Catholic Church in Oshawa, as well as the Polish Community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. with Prayers at 8 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa).
Please join with the family for a Funeral Mass at St. Hedwig’s Polish Catholic Church, 411 Olive Avenue, Oshawa, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11 a.m.

Interment will take place at Powazki Civilian Cemetery in Warsaw, Poland.
