Lynn Michelle Bond (Deratnay)

Wednesday, April 19th, 1961 - Sunday, December 15th, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Bond (nee Deratnay) on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, at the age of 63. Lynn passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a long illness.

Lynn was a loving wife to James for 36 years and a devoted mother to Carolyn (Ryan Lahti) and David. She was a cherished sister to Paul and Mark and a loving daughter to Barbara (Richard Habib). A proud Auntie, she is remembered fondly by her niece and nephews: Matthew and Sarah, children of Paul and Penney, and Aiden and Austin, children of Mark and Peggy. Lynn was predeceased by her father, Edward Deratnay.

Lynn was fortunate to have formed many lasting friendships throughout her life, from her youth participating in athletics at the Toronto Cricket Club, to her active involvement in Carolyn and David’s schools, and her years working at the dental office. Among these, she was a lifelong friend to Cathy Langdon, sharing many cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry for their compassionate care during Lynn’s final days.

A celebration of Lynn's life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oak Ridges Hospice in Lynn's memory are greatly appreciated.

Betty Jane Milner (Burgess)

November 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Betty Jane Milner on November 26, 2024, at the age of 88, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Betty is predeceased by her beloved husband Charlie. She was the loved and loving mother of Charlene, Cathy (Dave), and Mike (Jennifer). Cherished grandmother to Kevin (Juanita), Andrew (Sarah), Ashley (Kirk), Jessica (Brandon), and great-grandchildren Charlie, Levi, Carson, Violet, and Hailey (and her mother Kim). She will also be dearly missed by her step-grandchildren Kerry (Cam) and Laurel (Justin), and step-great-grandchildren Elliott and Bessie.

Betty is predeceased by her grandson Darryl Cairns and great-grandson George Milner, her parents Harold and Edith Burgess, and her siblings Muriel, Bob, Bruce, Dianne, Judy, and Darlene. She is survived by her siblings Lorne, Dorothy, Jim, Marylou, and Glen.

She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. The family extends special thanks to the Bayshore Care Team and Paramed for their loving care and support, as well as the staff at The Bartlett.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N, Whitby, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to join together and share in Betty’s memory.

Benny Andrew Settimo

Monday, April 2nd, 1984 - Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024

Benny Andrew Settimo passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on December 3, 2024, at the age of 40.
He was the much-loved son of Ben Settimo and Nancy Porter, and the adored older brother of Lia (Mitchell) and Christina (Bradley).

Benny was a devoted father to Kayla, Kayden, and Kaliya, and will be forever missed by his best friend Jennifer.
He was cherished by his Nonna Vita and was a loving uncle to Jordan and Lylah.

Visitation will take place at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N., Whitby, on Monday, December 16th, 2024, from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service in the Barnes Chapel at 2:00 pm.

Franz Alois Wieser

Saturday, July 31st, 1943 - Sunday, December 8th, 2024

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Franz Alois Wieser, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, on December 8, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born in Vienna, Austria, on July 31, 1943, Franz's life was marked by a deep commitment to his family, community, and personal excellence. After moving to Canada, he met and married his true soulmate, Ursula, with whom he shared 46 years of love, companionship, and mutual support. Their partnership was a testament to what it means to be soulmates, growing together in love, respect, and joy.

Franz's life was built on a foundation of education, hard work, and philanthropy. He earned a degree in technology and became a master electrician, running his own successful company for many decades. In Vienna, Franz was a respected head paramedic, where he saved lives and delivered many babies, showcasing his compassion and expertise. Known for his humility, he quietly supported numerous charitable causes, leaving an indelible impact worldwide.

Franz had many passions, including astronomy, gourmet food, fine travel, and flying. His love of the universe, culture, and adventure exemplified his spirited approach to life. Known for his impeccable style and elegance, Franz brought warmth and kindness to everyone he met.

Above all, Franz was a man of integrity, honour, and generosity. His love, wisdom, and authenticity touched the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ursula; his children, Karina (Karen) married to Sam, and Michael; his granddaughter, Serafina; his nephew, Alexander Rausch; and many extended family members and dear friends.

A simple private family service will be held in his honour. Franz’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a guiding light for all who knew him.

May he rest in peace in eternal paradise.

BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME

Rev. Canon Florence Ann Goodwin

December 20th, 1934 - December 5th, 2024

Florence Ann Goodwin passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, Ontario, on Thursday, December 5th, 2024. Daughter of William and Florence Goodwin, she was predeceased by her parents and brothers John Goodwin (Marion) and Ronald Goodwin.

She was a cherished Aunt to Carol Forde (Jack), Scott Goodwin (Clara), Janice Leschinsky (Fred), and Jane Norris (Jeff). Remembered lovingly by her 10 great-nieces and nephews: Crystal (Jamie), Colin, Adam, Emily (Anthony), Karl, James (Kathryn), Michael, Brittany (Rob), Ryan (Jeanne), and Joshua (Janis). She is also remembered by 7 great-great-nieces and nephews: Isla, Elyse, Declan, Makenna, Emma, Charlotte, and Claire.

Born in Oshawa, Ann moved to Brooklin at age six, where she helped her parents at the Brooklin House and formed a lifelong friendship with Lois Johnston (Harris). After graduating from the Oshawa General Hospital Nursing Program in 1956, Ann pursued further education in theology, attending Western University, Wycliffe College (U of T), and Trinity in Bristol, England. In 1980, she was ordained as the 21st female Anglican Priest in Canada.

Ann served as a hospital Chaplain at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre for 17 years and as Honorary Assistant at the Cathedral Church of St. John in Winnipeg, where she formed lasting friendships. Her life was filled with travel, including trips to Israel, Nicaragua, Uganda, and her ancestral Northern Ireland.

In 2014, Ann returned to Ontario to be near her family, bringing her hearty laugh and grace to family gatherings. She made new friends in Whitby and Oshawa, and her presence will be dearly missed.

A special thank you to the staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Wynfield LTC for their care and compassion.

A service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Whitby on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Groveside Cemetery in Brooklin, Ontario.

Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent much of her adult life helping others. Even as her health declined and she experienced constant pain, she continued to pray and support her family and friends. She never complained and always said, "God will make a way! He has a plan!"

Aileen Margaret Kirchsteiger (Worley)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aileen Margaret Kirchsteiger (Worley) at the age of 91, who passed away peacefully at her home in Whitby on Friday, November 29th, 2024. Aileen was predeceased by her beloved husband Helmut. She is the loving mother of Deborah Hilton (Ian), Lisa Charbonneau, and Michael Stead (Lisa), and was predeceased by her daughter Angela Henwood. Aileen was a proud grandmother to Erin, Kylie, Stefan, Michael, Sean, Jordin, Colin, and Connor, and a cherished great-grandmother to Paige, Taylor, Maisy, Nathan, Joel, and Rose. She was also predeceased by her sisters Gloria McMullen and Audrey Kelly.

Deanna Irene Bayliss (Defir)

Thursday, July 12th, 1945 - Thursday, November 28th, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deanna Irene Bayliss (Defir), who passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Thursday, November 28th, 2024, at the age of 79. Deanna was a beloved wife to David Bayliss for 57 years and a devoted mother to Christopher Bayliss (Laurel) and Julie-Anne Bayliss. She was also a proud grandmother to Daniel and Grace. Deanna is deeply mourned by her siblings Helen Neilsen, Marion Martin (Graham), and Edward Defir.

Visitation will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby, on Wednesday, December 4th, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm in the Barnes Chapel. A memorial service will follow immediately after the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Deanna.
