Maria De Lima Braga

March 2, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Maria De Lima Braga, who passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 94. She was surrounded by her loving family at Fairview Nursing Home, where she resided for the past two years.

Beloved wife and widow of Manuel Braga (deceased). She was a devoted mother to Maria do Rosario, Manuel, Ramiro, Lucia, and Irene. Cherished grandmother to James, Sonya, Cristina, Victor, Jordan, Beau, Romeo, Zachary, Jeremy, Sarah, and Lucas. Loving great-grandmother to Cooper, Chase, Lila, Richard, Lilian, Alyssa, Avery, Charlotte, and Nina.

Maria was born in Travessa dos Milagres, Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores. She began working at the young age of 9 to support her family. At 18, she faced the loss of her mother and took on the responsibility of caring for her family. At 25, she married and had five children. In 1969, at the age of 38, she immigrated to Canada with her children, seeking a better future for them.

She was a pillar of strength and resilience, working tirelessly with pride and humility. Maria approached every role in her life with dignity and perseverance. She was a kind and patient listener, someone you could talk to for hours. She loved music and often shared stories of her youth. Her greatest joy was bringing happiness to her family, which she did with boundless love and affection.

Mom, we will miss your beautiful smile—one that lit up a room with a twinkle in your eye that melted our hearts. Your spirit will live on in our hearts forever. As you always used to say, “Até um dia, se Deus quiser.” May you rest in eternal peace. Until we meet again in God’s kingdom.
