Passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family at the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Midland, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the age of 85, of R.R. #1, Coldwater.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Ed (December 2022). Loved mother of Brian (Rose) of Port McNicoll, Nancy Wice (Brian) of East Garafraxa, and Susan Masternak-Bourque (Ryan) of Toronto.
Loving grandmother of Rebecca (Chris), Jennifer (Colton), Dana, and Mitchell. Dear great-grandmother of Hudson and Winter. Survived by her brother Murray Ledingham (Cathy).
Predeceased by her sister Shirley Cachia. She will be fondly remembered by the Bourque Families and by her nieces and nephews.
The family will honour her life with a visitation at the Coldwater Funeral Home, Coldwater, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 12 noon until the time of service at 1 pm.
Spring interment will take place at St. John’s R.C. Cemetery, Waubaushene.

It is with heavy hearts that the Huter Family shares the passing of their beloved Matriarch and Co-Founder of Mount St. Louis Moonstone Ski Resort, Elfriede Huter. Elfriede passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital on December 25th, 2024, at the age of 86.
Born in Austria, Elfriede immigrated to Canada, bringing with her a spirit of determination and resilience. A self-taught, hardworking woman, she poured her heart and soul into everything she did. She was a true pioneer in the Canadian ski industry, turning her passion for skiing into a legacy that has touched countless lives.
Elfriede is predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Josl, her sister Dorothea, and her brother Adolf. She is survived by her cherished sons, Robert (daughter-in-law Sarah) and Andre, and her dear older sister, Rosa, along with her two nieces, Gabi and Rosa-Anna. She also leaves behind a legacy through her four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Lukas, and Charley Grace, whom she adored and spoke of with pride and love.
Elfriede lived an extraordinary life. Her vision and dedication to family and the mountains she loved shaped not only her own family’s path but also the skiing community she helped create. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother who inspired all who knew her.
A private funeral will be held for immediate family at Mount St. Louis Catholic Church. The family requests privacy during this time. Elfriede’s Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 7th, at 1:00 pm at the Moonstone Chalet, where friends and admirers can come together to ski in her honour and share their cherished memories. More details for the ceremony will be released in the coming days.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melvin Albertus “Mel” Metcalf, who passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the age of 81.
Beloved husband of Sylvia Metcalf, Mel was a loving father to Pamela Saranpaa (Martin), Sherri Seibel (Derek), Staci Roemer (Mark), and his bonus daughter Shanna Currie. Cherished grandfather of Aili (Jordan), Ate, Eva, Ellie, Joey, and Max. He will also be missed by his many cousins and extended family.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 33 Shirley Ave., Barrie, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
