Betty Winnifred Crook

1931 - December 25, 2024

Peacefully at McNally House, Grimsby, on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in her 94th year. Predeceased by her first husband, Stanley. Beloved companion of William “Bill” Cartlidge for 45 years. Loving mother of Greg (Susan) and Randy (Lori). Cherished grandmother of Kelly (Patrick) and Jessica, and great-grandmother of Taylor, Brock, Tyson, and Ava. Betty will also be missed by her siblings, along with many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at McNally House for their compassionate care.

Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service, which will be Livestreamed on the Donald V. Brown Facebook page, will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Karl Robert Taylor

January 1, 1944 – December 7, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Karl Robert Taylor on December 7, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital, at the age of 80. Karl was born on January 1, 1944, in Kingston, Jamaica.

Predeceased by his parents Loris Adams and Hubert Taylor, Karl leaves behind his wife/ex-wife Thelma Taylor, and children Melissa (Wendell), Clysen, and Dave (Sonia). He cherished his grandchildren Savannah, Ciara, Jayden, Erin, and Ashley, and great-grandchildren Grayson and Carson. Karl will also be fondly remembered by his sister Hyacinth, as well as his nieces, nephews, friends, and coworkers.

Karl spent many years working at Ontario Reman as a Receiver. He had a lifelong passion for history, geography, and politics, and was known as a “human navigator” — with Karl onboard, there was no need for a map. His remarkable memory for historical dates and facts was a source of admiration. Karl loved to travel and had no hesitation driving across the country from coast to coast.

Karl battled cancer for several years and faced it with incredible bravery until the very end. His family is proud of the fight he waged. Rest in peace, Karl.

Visitation: Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home.

Linda Sue Marston
1950 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Linda Sue Marston on October 26, 2024, in her 74th year. Linda leaves behind her beloved partner of 39 years, Robert Young. She was a devoted mother to Steph Marston (Nikki) and Dee Wieland (Greg), and a cherished Nanny to Tasha (Dyson), Michael, Brea, and Austin, as well as a proud Great-Nanny to Leah, Bentley, Ryker, Sylas, Emily, Everleigh, and Kensley.

Linda was a beloved sister to Bill Court (Laurie), a loving Aunt to Allison, and a Great-Aunt to Hailey and Hunter. She is now reunited with her mother Shirley, father Bill Sr., and stepfather Harvey. Her presence will be deeply missed by her extended family, cousins, and numerous friends.

As per Linda’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Cremation will take place, and a private family service will be held at a later date. In memory of Linda, donations to the Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.

Deborah “Debbie” Hollinger
1962 - 2023

Deborah “Debbie” Hollinger passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the age of 61.

Debbie was the dearly loved daughter of Charles and Helen Hollinger and the cherished mother of Skye Hollinger-Banks (Richard Hall). She was a devoted grandmother to Keira, Kendra, and Kyla Hall. Debbie will also be dearly missed by her siblings, Rick Hollinger (Jennifer) and Karyn Lucas, and by her nieces and nephews, Amaro and Braeden Lucas.

Debbie had a deep love for gardening, singing, and music. Known as a social butterfly since childhood, she had a gift for connecting with everyone she met. She was truly the sunshine in so many lives and will be deeply missed.

A private family Funeral Service has been held. A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.

Larry Forester passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at The Village of Wentworth Heights on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the age of 77.

He was the beloved husband of the late Donna and is predeceased by his cherished sons, Stephen and David. Larry was a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and he will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. His family extends special gratitude to the team at The Village of Wentworth Heights, especially Carol, Maryanne, Brittany, and Robbie, for their exceptional care and support.

Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.

Barbara Caroline Maradin (nee Krkuc) passed away peacefully with her children by her side at Arbour Creek Care Centre on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the age of 85. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen Parker (Nelson) and son Paul (Adriana). Cherished grandmother of Allison, Brett, Luigi, and Leah, Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Caroline and Peter, sister Shirley, and brothers Peter and John. She is survived by her dear sisters-in-law Rita and Joan, and will be fondly remembered by many extended family and friends.

Born on September 23, 1939, in Timmins, Ontario, Barbara was known for her hardworking spirit and dedication to family from a young age. After raising her children as a devoted homemaker, she enjoyed careers in retail and real estate, inspired by her love for working with people. Deeply proud of her Croatian heritage, she was an active member of the Croatian National Home and performed with the Lado Tamburitzans at numerous folklore festivals. As a member of the Canadian Croatian Choral Society, Barbara performed during the choir’s tours in Croatia, where they notably sang for Pope Francis. Known for her baking and traditional family meals, Barbara cherished family gatherings and loved watching her grandchildren in their sports and activities.

Barbara also enjoyed daily walks at Confederation Park, and her love of history and travel led her to explore many places around the world. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Arbour Creek Care Centre for their compassionate and professional care.

Visitation will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Sunday, October 27th from 1-4 p.m. Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial ceremony will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

1924 - 2024

Ruby Gladys Kring, born April 11, 1924, in Lockport, N.Y., passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, in Hamilton, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Kring and a devoted mother to the late Edward Kring. Ruby is survived by her cherished daughter-in-law, Debbie Kring, and her adoring grandchildren, Derek Kring and his wife Melissa, and Michael Kring and his wife Victoria. As a great-grandmother, she brought joy to Tyson, Sofia, Logan, Nolan, and Martin.

Ruby was a loving sister and a wonderful presence in the lives of her relatives and friends. Known as a social butterfly, she embraced her community through her love of her church and involvement in the 60 Club. Her infectious laugh and generous spirit touched everyone around her. This year, Ruby celebrated the milestone of her 100th birthday, surrounded by family and friends who adored her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family invites you to a Celebration of Life for Ruby on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at Stoney Creek United Church, 1 King St W, Stoney Creek. The service will take place in the sanctuary, followed by a small reception in the gym. Flowers may be sent to the church after 2 p.m. on November 9th, or donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services in lieu of flowers.

1935 - 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our adored mother, Erland, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Hamilton General Hospital, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Harold Perry. Predeceased by her sister Shirley and brother-in-law George Getzinger. Loving mother of Wayne (Darlene), Brian (Mary), Raymond (Anna), and Kevin. Cherished grandmother of Matthew (Teresa), Joel (Samantha), Breanna, and the late Todd (Paige). Doting great-grandmother to Claire, Dawson, Austin, Ricki, Harper, Peyton, and Olive.

Erland moved to Hamilton when she married Harold, and together they raised their four sons. She spent many years driving the boys to hockey practices and games, and summers were spent at Round Lake where the family enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. An avid knitter, Erland lovingly made mittens and scarves for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and greatly enriched the lives of all around her.

Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
