Margaret Peggy Ingram Dickie
Our beloved Matriarch, 98 years young, left us peacefully on November 1st with family by her side. Peggie was born on February 23, 1926, to David and Mary Cook in Brantford, Ontario, where she mastered superb secretarial skills. She met and married Bill Dickie in Brantford after he returned from WWII. The couple moved to Toronto, where she took on her dream job with Connaught Labs, until her daughter Gini's arrival in 1948 set a new course.
They settled in Fergus, Ontario, after Bill's graduation, where he established his optometry practice. Peggie soon joined him as office administrator, a role she embraced until retirement. Together, they traveled for Canadian Optometrist conventions and cherished research trips to Scotland.
Peggie was deeply involved with Melville United Church. After Bill's passing in 2012, her church family and neighbors became her support network. Known for her warm conversation, she was also a compassionate listener and hospice volunteer. She found joy at the family cottage on Lake Erie, her daily Sudoku, curling, bridge, and competitive cribbage games with her trademark phrase: “My house… My rules!”
She leaves cherished memories with daughters-in-law, Nancie and Mary Jane, her grandchildren Chris, Aisha, Erica (Will), and Nico (Maryanne), step-grandson Alessandro (Paola), and her three great-grandsons Tyson, Reid, and Logan.
Visitation will take place on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Graham A Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. S in Fergus, Ontario. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, at Melville United Church in Fergus.
