Ray Kenneth Gilmore of Harriston passed away on January 14, 2025, in his 78th year. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, followed by interment at Harriston Cemetery.

Dale Robert Thomas MacLean

October 10, 1950 – December 28, 2024

Two Bricks, have you got your ears on? This is the final call for Dale Robert Thomas MacLean! Dale received his final dispatch on Saturday, December 28, 2024, passing peacefully at his home in Harriston. He will be sadly missed by sisters Bonnie Henry of Kitchener and Shannon "Jill" MacLean (Don Montgomery) of Harriston.

Dale is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Adrienne Mills (Dan), Scott Mills (Eileen), Chad Henry (Laurie), and Carrie Henry; great-nieces and nephews: Alexandra, Isabella, Cole, Carly, Grayson, and Lochlan; and many cousins and friends across Canada. He will also be missed by his special friend and companion Leona Steffler and her family of Harriston.

Predeceased by his parents, George "Scotty" and Isobel (Shannon) MacLean; sister Lynda Mills; and brothers-in-law Wayne Mills and Doug Henry.

Known as “Louie” to many hometown friends, Dale was a talented goaltender in hockey and an avid baseball player with Harriston Minor Sports in the 1960s. He dedicated over 50 years to the trucking industry, with the last 45 years spent hauling cattle across Canada, the United States, and Mexico—a career that was his true passion.

A funeral service will be held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Don McCallum will officiate. Interment will take place at the Harriston Cemetery. The service will also be livestreamed.

Memorial donations to Palmerston & District Hospital or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated and can be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.

Garry MacDougall

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry MacDougall of Mount Forest, formerly of Harriston, who passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, in his 81st year.

Garry was the beloved husband of Betty (Holland) MacDougall. He is survived by his sister Candice and her husband Tom Austin of Walkerton, his mother-in-law Elaine Holland of Harriston, and his sister-in-law Linda and her husband Allan Hoffarth of Breslau. Garry was loved and remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Predeceased by his parents Donald “Tuffy” and Betty (Rogers) MacDougall, his sister Theresa Cochrane and her husband Brent, his brother Roger MacDougall and his wife Carole, his father-in-law Everett Holland, and his brother-in-law Robert Holland.

Garry was born on August 16, 1944, in Bournemouth, England. He arrived in Canada by boat in 1946 with his mother and brother Roger, settling first in Mount Forest and later in Harriston, where he lived most of his life and made countless friends. Garry married the love of his life, Betty, on April 8, 1978.

Known for his kindness and community spirit, Garry worked for over 30 years at L&M in Harriston, earning the nickname “Cookie Man” for his beloved habit of handing out cookies (and later quarters) to children. Later, Garry and Betty took over Suzie’s Restaurant, where he served as a friendly greeter and dishwasher.

Garry was a proud Legion member for over 50 years and actively participated in the Kinsmen and K-40 organizations. He had a passion for collecting photographs and newspapers, preserving the rich history of Harriston and sharing memories with his community.

Visitation will be held at Hardy-Lee Funeral Home in Harriston on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a Royal Canadian Legion memorial service at 5:30 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Harriston Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Palmerston & District Hospital (MRI Campaign), Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, or Harriston Legion Branch 296 would be appreciated by the family.

Maureen Grace Taeger (née Goodhead)

July 6, 1945 - December 22, 2024

Maureen Grace (Goodhead) Taeger, 79, of Harriston, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 22, 2024, at the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home in Fergus. Beloved wife of 55 years to David Taeger. Loving mother of Allison (Mark) Wilson of Fergus, James Taeger of Fergus, Meghan (Robert) Ewing of Kitchener, and Edward (Heather) Taeger of Elmira. Cherished grandmother of Abigail (William) Hendrick, Andrew Wilson, Oliver Ewing, and Edgar Taeger.

Maureen was born in Toronto on July 6, 1945, and later moved to Barrie, where she excelled academically. After earning her BA in English from York University and her high school teaching qualifications, she moved to Englehart, where she met her husband David. They raised their family in Northern Ontario before settling in Harriston in 1987. Maureen taught English and later became one of the first Co-op teachers in Wellington County. She retired in 1999 to focus on her family but returned briefly to teaching, which brought her great fulfillment.

Maureen was happiest when surrounded by her family and loved traveling to Florida, Myrtle Beach, and visiting her sisters in Las Vegas and California. She was a talented baker, creative homemaker, and avid gardener. Her kindness, quick laugh, and unwavering dedication to her family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Friends may call at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, for visitation on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., with visitation from 12:00 noon until the time of service.

Joseph Reynolds

1931 – 2024

William Joseph "Joe" Reynolds of Harriston passed away peacefully at Palmerston Hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the age of 93.

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle (Piper) Reynolds and the late Margaret (Robson) Reynolds. Cherished father of Marie and Charlie Pearson of Proton Station, Ron Reynolds and Joanne Harwood of Powassan, Bill and Carol Reynolds of Holstein, Ken Reynolds of Harriston, Glenda and Brian Marshall of Noelville, Rick Reynolds of Harriston, Pat and Chris Reynolds of B.C., and Jeanette and Kevin Hill of Moorefield. He will also be fondly remembered by his stepchildren Fred Enge and Marilyn Stemmler of Harriston, Steve and Nancy Enge of Delta, BC, Roger Enge and Kristine Thompson of Georgetown, Vicki Enge and Shawn Dunn of Toronto, Carolann Enge and Jim Riedel of Harriston, Barbara and Paul Whitfield of Listowel, and Mary and Mark Strachan of Oro-Medonte.

Joe will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as his siblings Joyce Reaman, Keith and Donna Reynolds, Carl and Bernie Reynolds, Fred and Jean Reynolds, and Betty and Doug Nightingale. He was predeceased by his son Dave Reynolds, daughter-in-law Iris Reynolds, granddaughter Tacey Reynolds, great-grandchild Brooke Reynolds, brother Stewart Reynolds, sister Ann Smith and husband Howard, and brother-in-law Doug Reaman.

Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Harriston United Church on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Harriston Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Palmerston & District Hospital.

James Wilfred “Jim” Harkness

1936 - November 16, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Wilfred Harkness on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Palmerston Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years, Doreen Harkness, and his children: Alan Harkness and Frank Wu, Doug and Charlene Harkness, John Harkness, and James Harkness and Wai Kin Chan. He was a proud grandfather to Alexis and Michael Rock, Kurtis Harkness and Meagan, Spencer Harkness and Mackenzie, Jorja Harkness and Liam, and Sienna and Kaiden Harkness-Chan. Jim cherished his great-grandchildren: Brexton, Teagan, Scarlett, Levi, and Layne.

Jim is survived by his sister Mary Harkness of Waterloo and in-laws Doris Bell of Aurora and Morris and Ross Langwisch of Drew. Predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Isabel Harkness, sister-in-law Velma, and brothers-in-law Lloyd Binkley and Eldon Bell, Jim will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Growing up on a farm in Minto Township, Jim attended Harriston High School before working for the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto, Sarnia, and Guelph, while returning to Minto on weekends to help on the family farm. In 1966, Jim and Doreen, with their sons Alan and Doug, moved back to Minto, where Jim worked as Office Manager for Canada Packers before purchasing the family farm in 1969. Over the years, Jim transitioned from raising cattle to establishing two farm equipment businesses, distributing machinery across Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. His dedication to his work was unwavering, continuing well into his 88th year.

A private family funeral service will be held at Hardy-Lee Funeral Home in Harriston, followed by a public celebration of Jim’s life at the Harriston Legion, 53 Elora Street South, Harriston, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with words of remembrance at 6:00 p.m.

Memorial donations to Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, or the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers. The family extends their gratitude to the staff of the Palmerston Hospital for their compassionate care.
