Blanche Arlene Poole

Passed away: January 14, 2025

Blanche passed away peacefully in her 93rd year. She will be remembered for her love of farm life, gardening, and her dedication to family and community.

Visitation will be held on January 25, 2025, at Roseneath United Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg, Ontario.

Linda Jane March (née Douglas)

June 30, 1941 – December 11, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Jane March (née Douglas), who passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at the age of 83, in the palliative care unit of North Northumberland Hospital.

Born in Lindsay, Ontario, to Gladys and Doug Douglas, Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Lloyd; her three daughters, Wendy (Dean Butler), Shelley (Ken Karpa), and Tina (Bob Bridger); and her beloved grandchildren, Carley, Amelia, Hayden, Hanna, and Lily. She is also survived by her brother Bill Douglas (Nicole) and her brother-in-law Bill March (Sue).

Linda was an accomplished golfer and cherished the friendships she formed at Cedarbrae Golf & Country Club and Plantation Golf & Country Club in Florida, where she and Lloyd spent many happy winters. Her passion for gardening brought her immense joy, and she continued to cultivate and admire her gardens well into her 80s. Her unique wit, humor, and memorable "Linda-isms" will be dearly missed.

Her devotion to her husband Lloyd and his to her was a constant throughout their lives, offering comfort and inspiration to all who knew them. The family finds solace in knowing Linda is now in a peaceful garden, a place of eternal beauty and tranquility.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire palliative care team and Dr. Mulé for their compassionate care during Linda’s final days.

Cremation has taken place, and no formal service will be held as per Linda’s wishes.

Doreen Florence Campbell

1926 – 2024

Passed peacefully on Monday, December 16th, 2024, in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Alex Campbell. Loving mother of Pat Wyatt (Jay) of Balclutha, New Zealand, and Dave Campbell (Cindy) of Cobourg. Cherished grandmother of Kara (Jake), Matt (Cheryl), Simon (Jaymie), Kris (Michelle), and Jason (Amanda), as well as Great Grandma to Keiley, Ada, Taylor, Fynn, Jake, and Luca.

Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Hope Street Terrace for their love, compassion, and care for Doreen throughout the years.

At this time, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Doreen’s life will occur in 2025 when her New Zealand family can attend. If you wish, the family would be grateful for any donations in her name to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.

Rose Marie Murray

1942 ~ November 26, 2024

It is with great sadness that Rose Marie’s children announce her peaceful passing at the Campbellford Memorial Hospital on November 26, 2024.

Our mother will be remembered for her contagious laughter, colorful sense of humor, the adventures through Apple Hill, the memorable recipes that will carry on for generations, and her green thumb with the many gardens that impressed everyone who had the privilege to witness them. Most of all, Rose Marie will be remembered for her ability to instill comfort to those who entered her life.

Rose Marie was born in Blind River and was the beloved daughter of the late Beatrice and David McCallum. She was a dear sister to Douglas, Richard, Jimmy, Johnny, and the late Dennis.

Predeceased by her husband William Murray and son Peter Murray, she was a loving mother to David (Kristine), Bernadette (Maurice), James Shannon (Natasha), Joseph (Nadine), and Rochelle. Special grandmother to Wesley, Calvin, Cheyenne, Morgan, Brent, Grace, Cole, and Honor, and great-grandmother to Ray, McKenna, and Quinn.

Celebration of Life:
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre.

If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada in her memory.

Donald (Don) Bedford

1942 ~ December 6, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Bedford, aged 82, on December 6, 2024, at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, with his family by his side. Don was a devoted husband to his beloved late wife Donna for over 51 years. He was a loving father to Randy and the late Cindy, and a proud Papa to Kyle, Joey, Sarah, Torey, and Great Papa to Haylie and Colton.

A printer by trade, Don joined the North York Fire Department in 1970, where he served for 25 years. Known as a reliable and respected firefighter, Don was also a great friend, admired for his strength of mind and body. He cherished the deep friendships he formed with his fellow firefighters, including his two best friends, Paul and Al.

Don was an excellent athlete in his youth, excelling in baseball, football, and hockey. He was celebrated for pitching a no-hitter at a CNE tournament, quarterbacking his high school football team, and showcasing his skills as a hockey player. As an adult, Don was an avid fan of the Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Maple Leafs, most recently enjoying the Argos' Grey Cup victory.

One of Don’s greatest passions was his love for animals, particularly his dogs. Known as the "Dogfather," he cared deeply for Sable, the late Sage, and numerous other rescue dogs, providing them with loving homes. He also shared his home with a beloved cat named Stormy and patiently accommodated other pets for the sake of his family.

Don’s life was centered on others, whether it was his family, friends, or pets. In keeping with his wishes, no funeral will be held. To honor his memory, donations to any local dog rescue organization would be greatly appreciated.

Elie Gerrit Lee Dekeyser

1945 ~ November 26, 2024

Suddenly at his home on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, in his 79th year. Beloved partner of Carol Brown (née Beal). Loving father of Lisa Dekeyser (Laurie LeMaitre), Darlene Moran (Patrick McConkey), Chris Dekeyser (Christine Francis), and Nicole Kniff. Loved as a son Greg Clouston (Caroline) and stepfather of Troy Brown and the late Mandy Masterson (Clark Masterson).

Cherished grandfather of Kyle Harren (Hannah), Megan Chiovitti (Matthew Tasse), Carlee Moran, Emma Moran, Kelly Dekeyser, Alexis St. Bernard (Noah), Logan Minnie (Raine), Abigail Baker, Madison Kniff, Paige Kniff, Caitlin Clouston, Brittany Huskilson (Mike), and Brooke Clouston, and Papa to Quinn Masterson (Camden Moir), Cole Masterson, Arthur Brown, and Jordan Brown. Great-grandfather of Nash, River, Lennon, Nohlan, Ariah, Cohan, Laine, and Henry.

Cherished brother of Christiane Deseure (Jerry), Nadine Moonie (Chris Swoffer), Ed Dekeyser (Brenda), Tony Dekeyser (Bill Skinner), Linda Moore, and Robert Dekeyser (Helen). Elie was predeceased by his parents Richard (1980) and Maria Dekeyser (2001) and his brothers Roland (2006), Fernando (2015), Ronnie (2020), brother-in-law Glenn “Beans” Moore (2022), cherished stepdaughter Mandy (Brown) Masterson (2020), and mother-in-law Audrey Beal (2015). He will also be missed by his father-in-law Ray Beal (Heather Bandy) and brother-in-law Randy Beal (Pat).

Celebration of Life:
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Sunday, December 15th, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Keeler Centre, Colborne, with words of remembrance at 2:30 PM.

If desired, donations may be made to the SickKids Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Northumberland Humane Society, or Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Justine Catherine Sullivan

2024

Justine Catherine Sullivan passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, Ontario, after a courageous fight with cancer. Justine was known for her love of learning, intelligence, and a great sense of humor. She was an Ontario scholar, a graduate of The Toronto French School, the University of Toronto, and Ontario Teachers College. A proud member of Mensa Canada, Justine brought joy and wit to everyone she met.

Her passion for education led her to teach French for the Durham School Board before becoming a home room teacher. She had a deep love for books, particularly historical fiction, and a remarkable ability to connect with children, which made her a dedicated and inspiring educator.

Justine’s greatest joy in life was her children. She was a devoted and loving mother to Liam, Niamh, and Asher, who were her world.

Justine is deeply mourned by her mother, Linda N. Syrota (formerly Sullivan); her sister, Camille (Jimmy); her sister, Chloé; her brother, Danny; her children’s father, Ian Daly; her uncle, Douglas Syrota; and her stepmother, Lauren Sullivan, along with Lauren’s sister, Linny. She was predeceased by her father, Paul J. Sullivan, Q.C., who passed away just one day before her. Justine was cherished by her late grandparents, Norman and Catherine Syrota, after whom she was named.

Special thanks go to her dear friends, Aurelia, Mel, and Marco, for their unwavering love and support. A celebration of Justine’s life will be held in the spring.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Justine’s family and friends during this difficult time. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who loved her.

Arthur Ronald Walter Platt ("Ron")

1939 – 2024

Peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the age of 85, Arthur Ronald Walter Platt ("Ron") passed away. He was the beloved husband of Hilary and a devoted father to Catherine Hall (Richard), Andrea Bartley (Kevin), and Tim Flores (Caroline).

Ron was a proud grandfather to Holly-Anne, Jake, Joshua, Matthew, Mordecai “Cai,” and Aaliyah, and a loving great-grandfather to Shayla and Jace. He was the cherished brother of the late Shirley Rogers and a treasured member of his family and community.

A service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Following the burial, a reception will take place in the Funeral Home Reception Centre.

Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.

 

Ruth Marie Gzik

1928 – 2024

Peacefully, at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, in her 96th year, Ruth Marie Gzik passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry Gzik and loving mother of Robert (the late Cheryl) and Henry.

Ruth was a dear grandmother to Melissa, Martin, and the late Vanessa, and step-grandmother to Angela and Michelle. She was a cherished great-grandmother to Brandon, Elizabeth, Tia, Hayley, and Ava.

Friends are invited to call at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg, on Thursday, November 21st, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by a service at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place in Cobourg Union Cemetery.

Dorothy Diane Kirkland
1943 - 2024

Dorothy Diane Kirkland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg, Ontario, at the age of 81.

Diane was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy Goulter. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Betty Taylor and predeceased by her siblings, Barbara (the late Ivan) Steele and Michael Goulter. Diane will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of Diane’s life will be held at a later date. The family would appreciate donations in her memory to the Barrhaven United Church Choir or the Alzheimer Society.
