Šime Maruna
1941 - October 22, 2024

In loving memory of Šime Maruna, who passed away suddenly at the age of 83 on October 22, 2024. Šime was a man full of life and joy, always guided by his Catholic faith and the Prayer of St. Francis. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Darinka Maruna (1999), with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. A devoted father to Tony & Marina, Mark & Alison, and a cherished grandfather to Julia, Gabriela, Natalie, Šime Jr., Adam, and Sofia, Šime's family was his pride and joy.

Born on July 27, 1941, in the small village of Jesenice, Croatia, Šime was the youngest of eight siblings. He grew up in humble beginnings, helping his family raise goats and learning the value of hard work. He emigrated to Canada in 1968, landing at the port of Montreal before settling in Sarnia, Ontario. He built a successful career as a mechanic and machine shop worker, spending 40+ years at BV Tool Co Ltd.

Šime was deeply committed to his Croatian community, forming lifelong friendships through church and social gatherings. Known for his love of storytelling, horseshoe competitions, and bocce ball, he touched the lives of many. His home was always open, and his love for family, friends, and good conversation was boundless. He will be dearly missed by his large family in Croatia and Canada.

A visitation will be held at McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Church on Saturday, October 26th at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
